Bug#531546: Bug #531546: empty graphs due to 'A DB Exec Failed' Poller[0] ERROR

2010-09-22 Thread sean finney
hi teodor,

thanks for looking into this!

I've been able to reproduce the problem. So far the problem will
appear any time I'll activate 'spine' poller. One weird thing is that
both CMDPHP and SPINE are present in the cacti.log as if both are
running even if I selected 'spine' to do the polling. Note that I'm
using cacti=0.8.7g with spine=0.8.7a-2.3 on a Debian 5.0 (lenny) host.

do you get the same problems if you also upgrade spine from the lenny version
to the squeeze version (0.8.7e-2)? i wouldn't be surprised that the
poller from lenny is designed for different sql/schema and thus might not
do the right INSERT/UPDATE type statements.

if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem,
you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling
it yourself and replacing the packaged version), but i haven't been lead
to believe that the latest version is so different from the squeeze/sid
version.

2010-09-22 Thread Achim Weber
Hi OdyX

If one can confirm that squeeze's network-manager mobile broadband works,
 please close this RC bug.

I can confirm, since ppp 2.4.5 network-manager mobile broadband is working.
Up-to-date Squeeze/Testing.

Bug#597654: postgresql-8.4 8.4.4-2 breaks start ordering of init scripts

2010-09-22 Thread Martin Pitt
reassign 597654 postgresql-common 109
tag 597654 confirmed
thanks

Hello Adam,

Adam Heath [2010-09-21 15:40 -0500]:
 I just upgraded postgres-8.4 from 8.4.4-1+b1 to 8.4.4-2. This
removed the separate postgresql-8.4 init script, and replaced it
with a common one. Previously, postgresql-8.4 would start at S19.

Ah, sorry about that. I'll move the common one back to 19 then.

I have postgresql listed as Should-Start in ofbiz's initscript.
However, init dependencies are not active, so normal number based
 ordering is used.

I. e. you removed insserv? I thought that was the (pretty much
mandatory) default in Squeeze now.

Thanks,

Martin

Are you still working on this? The squeeze release managers are
getting itchy to remove leaf packages from squeeze with RC bugs, and
fceu looks like a prime candidate.

If you need help, maybe one of us could help.

Well put. The itchyness is increasing too. But then it's probably too late
for intrusive changes. They should've been done directly post-freeze, at the
latest. A new upstream version might be a no-go at this point.

Kind regards,

Bug#531546: Bug #531546: empty graphs due to 'A DB Exec Failed' Poller[0] ERROR

2010-09-22 Thread Teodor MICU
Hi,

On Tue, Sep 21, 2010 at 11:56 PM, sean finney sean...@debian.org wrote:
some ideas/questions off the top of my head:
  * did you get any sql upgrade errors after the package was updated?

There were no sql upgrade scripts from 0.8.7e-4 to 0.8.7g-1. The
upgrade says clearly that there are no scripts to run. I've checked
manually in the install directory and these two scripts are just
changing the cacti vesion in the database:
- 0_8_7e_to_0_8_7f.php
- 0_8_7f_to_0_8_7g.php

  * does the schema seem correct (i.e. a disabled column in the host table)?

I don't know anything related to a 'schema', so probably not the
issue. If you can tell me what to check, I'll do.

  * does it work if you disable the spine poller and use the cmd.php one
   instead?

Yes, with 'cmd.php' I get the graphs but still at every 5 minutes
there are SQL errors reported (see attached).
No, with 'spine' I still get the SQL errors but also only NaN on all graphs.

  * does it start graphing again if you nuke the rrd files or play around
   with rrdtool versions?

I'll try to avoid playing around with rrdtool again. I did it for the
conversion from 1.2x to 1.3x and this is the main reason I'm using
cacti from squeeze on a lenny host.

esp for the first two items, if you suspect the problem is in the SQL,
and have time to help with some QA: i think it would be very helpful to
get a db dump of a fresh install vs the db dump of a almost-as-fresh
install of the previous version upgraded after maybe half an hour of
polling... it could be that there's a bug in the update sql logic.

I'll try to do a fresh install, but I don't I'll have the time this week.

I didn't upgrade spine because I'll have to upgrade mysql too (and
probably other packages from backports). The weird thing about these
SQL errors is that running them manually gives no error but sometimes
there are no results returned from the query.

if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem,
you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling

There are near zero chances of compiling it myself. I'll probably try
a fresh install on a squeeze host with cacti and spine =0.8.7e. Until
them I'll stick with cacti=0.8.7e-4.

There were no sql upgrade scripts from 0.8.7e-4 to 0.8.7g-1. The
upgrade says clearly that there are no scripts to run.

This is all that the upgrade process gives:

##

Upgrade results:
No SQL queries have been executed.

Package: bip

Severity: grave

Unauthenticated users can easily cause a NULL pointer dereference in bip (bip is
listening at localhost:7778):

$ echo USER | telnet localhost 7778

other window

==25787== Process terminating with default action of signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
==25787== Access not within mapped region at address 0x0
==25787==at 0x11BE5C: bip_on_event (irc.c:2483)
==25787==by 0x11BF4A: irc_main (irc.c:2554)
==25787==by 0x113A97: main (bip.c:1316)

The NULL pointer dereference happens in this code:

if (r == ERR_PROTOCOL) {
mylog(LOG_ERROR, [%s] Error in protocol, closing...,
LINK(lc)-name);
goto prot_err_lines;
}

AFAIK this has been reported upstream. However, I haven't talked directly with
any bip developer about this so far.

Cheers,
Uli

Bug#531546: empty graphs due to 'A DB Exec Failed' Poller[0] ERROR

Ok, the last test reveals that with 'cmd.php' used directly after
upgrade the same SQL errors will appear after the first 5 minutes
cycle (see attached file). See that the 'select' queries in the
database are good with some notes:
- there is a missing  in the log at 11:35:34 regarding SQL:REPLACE INTO;
- I've executed only the 'select' queries.

Another problem seems that 'cmp.php' poller is executes more than 60
seconds which leads to overlapping:

detected as overrunning a polling process, please investigate
Shall I open a new bug report for this?

I'll revert to 0.8.7e-4 and test a fresh 'cacti=0.8.7g-1' install on a
virtual machine.

Ok, this is the last cacti version that works for me too (actually all
have worked fine except the last one v0.8.7g). I guess rrdtool=1.4.x
you have it from backports or you run Debian 6.0?

 rc  cacti-spine                         0.8.7a-2.3

This was not purged, so I guess you are running Debian 5.0 (lenny).

We don't use cacti-spine, I have set up the following:
 Under General:
RRDTool 1.3.x (no option for 1.4.x)

Support for rrdtool 1.4x is available on cacti 0.8.7g although I
didn't test it to see if it works.

 Uner Poller:
 cmd.php

Right, this is the default settings and works well for a limited
number of hosts and graphs. I have 52 hosts and ~500 graphs to update,
where the CPU load (by core/processor), load average and CPU usage are
configured at 1 minute.

Package: postgresql-8.4
Version: 8.4.4-2
Severity: serious

I just upgraded postgres-8.4 from 8.4.4-1+b1 to 8.4.4-2. This removed
the separate postgresql-8.4 init script, and replaced it with a common
one. Previously, postgresql-8.4 would start at S19. The new version
starts at S20. So, anything in S20 that required postgresql-8.4, and
happens to come earlier alphabetically, will fail to start, as
postgresql-8.4 starts too late.

I have ofbiz as a deb package(local, not in debian,
http://ofbiz.apache.org). I use dbconfig-common to manage configuring
the database. I have postgresql listed as Should-Start in ofbiz's
initscript. However, init dependencies are not active, so normal
number based ordering is used. I've always used S20(the defaults),
and everything has worked correctly. This was due to postgresql-8.4
being S19.

Ofbiz doesn't require any particular version of postgresql. It'll
work with all of them. It'll also work with mysql, and with
derby(which is embedded into ofbiz). So I don't see a need to have a
versioned Should-Start in its initscript, nor as a Depends on the package.

I'm fairly certain this will break full system upgrades too(hence the
reason I set the severity to serious).

This bug is related to http://bugs.debian.org/585890

I would say that insserv is broken, if multiple packages can't provide
the same service.

Bug#597704: On upgrade to 2.4.23-5 an rm -f /* has been executed and crashed my whole system!

2010-09-22 Thread Joerg Friedrich
Package: slapd
Version: 2.4.23-5
Severity: critical

After the last upgrade of slapd my complete sytem was unusable because
the update ran a rm -f /*.

this fortunatly was not able to delete the directory bin, sbin, home,
var, ... but it deleted the symlink lib64 - lib (amd64 system) and then
the linker was not able to find some libraries so the system was
unusable. I was able to recover the link by boot cd, so I think I did
not lose any data.

Background: I installed slapd on my desktop for testing with
ldapbackend. I just did a straight installation of slapd but I changed
slapd.conf afterwards to use the ldap-backend.
During the upgrade either slapd.config or slapd.postinst failed and
tried to delete the database directory but since my slapd.conf did not
contain any directory statement any more get_directory returned nothing
and $dbdir was emtpy. So instead of rm -f $dbdir/* it ran rm -f /*!

Please add a test that checks if $dbdir has any value!

Btw: I think rm -f $dbdir/* can run into MAX_ARGS. maybe using find
 -delete would be better

Bug#597706: linux-image-2.6.32-5-kirkwood: Kernel panic during net initialization

2010-09-22 Thread Roland Mas
Package: linux-image-2.6.32-5-kirkwood
Severity: grave
Version: 2.6.32-23

The latest kernel upgrade to my Sheevaplug this morning (from 2.6.32-20
to 2.6.32-23) ends up with the box not booting any longer. The box runs
Squeeze, but I hadn't rebooted since upgrading to -20 (so maybe -21 was
affected too). I managed to capture the attached output through the
serial port. Several attempts to fiddle with stuff (restoring the
previous kernel and/or initrd) have given me different backtraces, some
involving ipv6 rather than ipv4, but I didn't manage to get full boot
sequence, or even a ping. The logs on the DHCP server (on another box)
seem to indicate that no DHCP query is sent, so I suspect something
wrong in the network code. The NIC itself is probably fine, since the
DHCP client built into the U-Boot firmware manages to negociate an IP
address (DHCPDISCOVER, DHCPOFFER, DHCPREQUEST and DHCPACK) and ping a
host on the net.

I'm not sure how I can help debug that, but I'm very willing.

Roland.

Hi Joerg,

Can you supply a configuration file (/etc/ldap/slapd.conf) ?
Make sure there is no confidential information in that file.

Furthermore, can you supply the debconf information ?

Roland.

Although it might make sense to check *why* the variable was empty, you need to
make sure never to call something like rm $foo/* when you're not sure that $foo
is not empty. You should add an extra check here to ensure this. Also you should
check if the slapd user actually owns the files (or at least the directory)
before deleting them.

Although it might make sense to check *why* the variable was empty, you need
 to
make sure never to call something like rm $foo/* when you're not sure that
 $foo
is not empty. You should add an extra check here to ensure this. Also you
 should
check if the slapd user actually owns the files (or at least the directory)
 before deleting them.

This shouldn't happen in the first place, because the ldap backend is
not a supported backend to upgrade from.

I'm investigating why this is happening.

That doesn't make a difference. Such things can always happen, so you need to

Yep, known. I mailed -release@ and got it unblocked for migration, and
it's urgency=high.

If insserv doesn't support multiple scripts all providing the same
 thing, then it is buggy.

Only through some hairy workarounds apparently, but that should be
quite unrelated to this bug? insserv doesn't (or at least shouldn't)
care about the /etc/rc2.d/* bits.

Ok, this is the last cacti version that works for me too (actually all
have worked fine except the last one v0.8.7g). I guess rrdtool=1.4.x
you have it from backports or you run Debian 6.0?

I have just upgraded to 0.8.7g-1, backed up the DB before doing so then
did the web interface upgrade steps, it said there was no SQL upgrade.
And it is still happily graphing.

So I am guessing your problem is probably with cacti-spine (that I am
not using). Different bug if you ask me.

Sure. But if insserv supported multiple provides, you wouldn't have
had to change the init script management at all, and you could revert
the whole thing.

Instead of fixing insserv, other packages are now breaking. So
instead of one broken package, we have several.

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/sbin/rmail
  /usr/share/man/man8/rmail.8.gz

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

-Ralf.

it was reported against elderly now iceowl/0.8-6

You want to double check this? According to PTS stable is still 0.8-6.

Sebastian has confirmed that he could start 1.0~b1+dfsg1-1 (on
mipsel?) without problems, so problems seems not to be grave imho in the
light of Release-Criticality

Yes, I tested it on mipsel. It is still not working on Lenny [0] so it
is unusable and it matches grave. The maintainer could close it in
unstable if he trusts me with this information so it will not remain
release critical for Squeeze.

[0] haven't check this but we have the bug report against the same
version which is in Lenny.

And it is still happily graphing.

So I am guessing your problem is probably with cacti-spine (that I am
not using). Different bug if you ask me.

Yes, it was working for me too (happily graphing) if I used 'cmd.php'
which you also use. But also, check the 'cacti.log' file for SQL

Are you by chance using libpam-mount? It was the cause for #401761 and
#484122, for example, which exhibited the same symptoms.

If not, please post the output of `dpkg -l | grep pam`.

Bug#531546: Bug #531546: empty graphs due to 'A DB Exec Failed' Poller[0] ERROR

2010-09-22 Thread sean finney
hiya,

i'll group two replies together here.

On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 10:57:10AM +0300, Teodor MICU wrote:
   * does the schema seem correct (i.e. a disabled column in the host table)?

I don't know anything related to a 'schema', so probably not the
issue. If you can tell me what to check, I'll do.

what i meant was something along the lines of comparing mysqldump
output when the --no-data option was used (i.e. are all the tables/columns
the same between the versions and do the queries look correct).

   * does it work if you disable the spine poller and use the cmd.php one
    instead?

Yes, with 'cmd.php' I get the graphs but still at every 5 minutes
there are SQL errors reported (see attached).
No, with 'spine' I still get the SQL errors but also only NaN on all graphs.

ok, then my suspicions turn towards spine as the culprit.

   * does it start graphing again if you nuke the rrd files or play around
    with rrdtool versions?

I'll try to avoid playing around with rrdtool again. I did it for the
conversion from 1.2x to 1.3x and this is the main reason I'm using
cacti from squeeze on a lenny host.

right. and if cmd.php works and spine doesn't, i don't think we should
focus too hard on the rrdtool goo.

On Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 11:02:05AM +0300, Teodor MICU wrote:
do you get the same problems if you also upgrade spine from the lenny

to the squeeze version (0.8.7e-2)?  i wouldn't be surprised that the
poller from lenny is designed for different sql/schema and thus might not
do the right INSERT/UPDATE type statements.

I didn't upgrade spine because I'll have to upgrade mysql too (and
probably other packages from backports). The weird thing about these
SQL errors is that running them manually gives no error but sometimes
there are no results returned from the query.

okay, this may be where the problem is, though.

if upgrading to the squeeze version of spine doesn't solve the problem,
you could also try updating to the latest upstream version (i.e. compiling
it yourself and replacing the packaged version), but i haven't been lead
to believe that the latest version is so different from the squeeze/sid
  version.

There are near zero chances of compiling it myself. I'll probably try
a fresh install on a squeeze host with cacti and spine =0.8.7e. Until
 them I'll stick with cacti=0.8.7e-4.

i think backporting the package should be fairly straightforward, assuming
your problem is because you don't want to get your hands dirty at least (vs
some kinda corporate you can not compile on the web hosts thing).

the following should be all you need to do:

 * make sure there is a deb-src line for squeeze on your lenny box

deb-src http://ftp.se.debian.org/debian squeeze main

 * (as root) apt-get update; apt-get install build-essential fakeroot
 * (as root) apt-get build-dep cacti-spine
 * apt-get source -b cacti

packages compiled against your lenny packages (i.e. no mysql upgrade required)
will then have appeared in the current working directory.

i suggest you give it a go before getting to deep into any other
troubleshooting. as it should only take a number of minutes to do the
above and then a couple runs of spine after that to see if it works.

Bug#584383: Not pending, disappeared from NEW ?

2010-09-22 Thread Didier 'OdyX' Raboud
tags 584383 -pending
thanks

Hi dear titantools maintainers,

From what I could gather from the NEW log, it seems that there was once a
titantools 4.0.11-7 in NEW, that was supposed to fix this RC bug:

* Makefile.linux: Do not build noshell as a static binary as this
does not gain anything and leads to a FTBFS in amd64 (Closes: 584383)

My RSS tells me that titantools 4.0.11-7 left NEW on 04.09.2010 02:00, but I
can't get a trace of that anywhere on the packages.qa.d.o, on the buildd or on
the archive (CC'ing ftpmaster to get a enlightening on that).

So #584383 is still to be fixed.

Cheers, OdyX

Although we'd ideally like to fix this problem on our end, we think we

Bug#597739: Salome: cannot load module salomeloader

2010-09-22 Thread Adam C Powell IV
severity 597739 normal
thanks

Thank you for your report. The program should be started with the
command runSalome not salomeloader, so the package is usable.

Also, 5.1.3-9 and newer versions should not have /usr/bin/salomeloader
but /usr/lib/salome/bin/salomeloader. Please check the location of the
script, it should not be where you found it.

When I run /usr/lib/salome/bin/salomeloader I get the same error, so
this is a bug. The salomeloader python module is distributed in
/usr/share/pyshared/salome/salomeloader.py .

I'll investigate further when I get some more time.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=570662

 # still fails on alpha and ia64:

Confirmed, dito on Git MIPSEL (WL-500gPv2 OpenWrt 2.6.34.5 Debian stable
extroot).

Would have tried to fix it myself (patch -- upstream),
but saw that Debian had some activity at #570662.
Checked Debian source files, couldn't find all too much overly
useful stuff (read: NONE).

Bit wondering why buildd status page advertises mipsel as installed, though,
since Git did fail for me at __NR_perf_event_open. Config deviations??

Ping?

Suitable CC's added.

Thanks,

Andreas Mohr

I may have some time to check it by the end of the week. I know how to
compile stuff, even quite complex projects, but I'm quite unfamiliar
with git (even though I shouldn't), and I don't know where to find
your git repository (googled a lil' bit but wrong keywords, I guess).

You can either try the pvaneynd branch in the git repository or wait

Hi

not sure if the bug is on llvm-2.7-dev or vim-common side, but vim-common
came later with this file so I'm filing it here.

The problem when installing 2:7.3.000+hg~ee53a39d5896-1 is following:

dpkg: chyba při zpracovávání
/var/cache/apt/archives/vim-common_2%3a7.3.000+hg~ee53a39d5896-1_amd64.deb
(--unpack):
zkouším přepsat soubor „/usr/share/vim/vimcurrent“, který je také v balíku
llvm-2.7-dev 2.7-4

(trying to overwrite file ... which is also in package ...)

Bug#597707: cron: Cron segfaults while executing jobs

Hi Christian,

Are you by chance using libpam-mount? It was the cause for #401761 and

Yeah, it was a libpam-mount, sorry for the noise :(
I realized it a couple of minutes after I sent the bug report.

Bug#597778: schroot: Stupid name restrictions is breaking existing setups for no good reason.

2010-09-22 Thread Len Sorensen
Package: schroot
Version: 1.4.12-1
Severity: grave

I just upgraded schroot to the current version in testing, and now I
can't use it anymore because someone got the bright (not) idea that only
alphanumeric, dashes and underscores should be allowed in chroot names.
It was annoying enough when a while ago the config files started having
that (undocumented unless you read the source code and without useful
error message) restriction.

Put it back to sanity please.

If I want to name a chroot rr2.1.0 because that's what is in it, then
that's my choice.

While you are at it, let me choose the names of my config files too.

Breaking existing users is NOT acceptable so stop doing that.

Bug#597755: scilab: Not binNMU-able

Le mercredi 22 septembre 2010 à 20:44 +0100, Adam D. Barratt a écrit :
 Package: src:scilab
 Version: 5.2.2-6

 scilab-include, scilab-minimal-bin and scilab-full-bin are all
architecture-dependent, which means their version will change on
binNMUs, rendering all of the above dependencies on them unsatisfiable.
That wasn't supposed to be uploaded. Sorry. I will fix that tomorrow.

Thanks for noticing that.
