Bug#647695: spyder: segfaults right after start

2011-11-06 Thread PICCA Frédéric-Emmanuel
 libqtwebkit4 (2.1.0~2011week09-3 - 2.1.0~2011week13-2)

ok so the problem is here

that way I should prevent spyder to be installed with the wrong libqtwebkit4

 how?

to me python-qt4 must be fixed with the right libqtwebkit4 version like other
libqtxxx libraries

well, it's indeed a bug in spyder that it doesn't declare the correct
relationship with other pkgs (it doesn't even say it needs
 libwebkit...)

Yes to use spyder you just need python-qt4 which itself depends of libqtwebkit.
to build src:spyder from sources you do not ever need to install python-qt4,
this is just python bytecode.

Package: python-qt4
Version: 4.8.6-2
Installed-Size: 23326
Maintainer: Debian Python Modules Team
python-modules-t...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Architecture: i386
Replaces: python-qt4-common, python-qt4-dev ( 4.4.4-3~)
Provides: python2.6-qt4, python2.7-qt4
Depends: python2.7 | python2.6, python (= 2.6.6-7~), python ( 2.8), libc6

libqtcore4 (= 4:4.7.0), libqtgui4 (= 4:4.7.1), libqtwebkit4, libstdc++6 (=
4.1.1), sip-api-8.1
Suggests: python-qt4-dbg
Conflicts: python-qt4-common
Breaks: python-kde4 (= 4:4.6.80-3+b1), python-qscintilla2 (= 2.5.1-1),
python-qt4-dbg ( 4.8.3-3), python-qt4-gl ( 4.8.3-3), python-qt4-gl-dbg (

( 0.1.7~cvs20090625-7), python-qwt5-qt4 (= 5.2.1~cvs20091107+dfsg-6)

look python-qt depends of an unversionned libqtwebkit4, to me this is the
problem, am I right ?

I would put libqtwebqit4 (=2.1.0~2011week13-1)
If I look into the python-qt4 control file, the dependencies are generated only
with shlibs:Depends.
and the Build-Depends: debhelper (= 7),
   libdbus-1-dev (= 1.0.2),
   libphonon-dev (= 4:4.2.0-2),
   libqt4-dev (= 4:4.7.0),
   libqt4-opengl-dev,
   libqtassistantclient-dev,
   libqtwebkit-dev,
is on un unversionned libqtwebkit-dev.

libqtwebkit do not provide the right shlib dependency ?

what is you opinion, and the right way to solve this issue ?

Cheers,

Frederic

Package: gnome
Version: 1:3.0+3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

I just reported bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=647768
which is a serious issue with the debian system. This happened after a
reboot of a single system and I am afraid to reboot the rest of the fleet as
a result in fear that our knowledge and culture may be lost forever.

Instead of addressing this concern and providing and/or fixing a clean
upgrade path, Josselin has closed the previous bug with a shrug. A shrug.
This seems to indicate that not only GNOME, but the entire debian system is
broken, and that more breakage is on the way. What can we do to avoid such
cascade failure across the whole planet?

This bug might be fixed by latest upload (verioned 1.14.1-2). At

Package: scummvm
Version: 1.3.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

Dear Maintainer,

scummvm can't be build on kfreebsd, because it build-conflicts with
liboss-salsa-dev,
but build-depends on libfluidsynth-dev, which in turn depends on
liboss-salsa-dev
on kfreebsd.

See https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=scummvm

This build-conflicts was added to close bug #600655
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=600655

In the bug report another method to fix the bug without build-conflicting with
liboss-salsa-dev was mentioned. Please use this method.

This prevents the new package to enter testing.

Best regards,
Tobias

Bug#647821: nice: Should this package be orphaned/removed

2011-11-06 Thread Niels Thykier
Package: nice
Severity: serious

Hi,

As far as I can tell, the maintainer of nice is also the (sole)
upstream developer for nice. By the looks of it, upstream is dead and
this implies that this package is silently unmaintained.

If you are still around to maintain this package, please respond to
this package within 14 days. Otherwise I shall I assume you have lost
interest and orphan your package.

This package builds with -Werror, and GCC 4.6 triggers new warnings
which will make the package fail to build. Currently a Debian patch
just passes
-Wno-error=unused-but-set-variable and
-Wno-error=unused-but-set-parameter
to avoid build failures, but this patch will be reverted with the
GCC 4.6.1 release, and the severity of the report will be raised.

The full build log can be found at:

Not really ;)

Doko's report is a false positive. The files that generate the
warnings in question are not built using -Werror.

Ack, closing this bug.

However while testing to confirm that it was a false positive I
discovered that tuxpuck was unbuildable in current sid for another
reason. tuxpuck build-depends on both libjpeg62-dev and
libsdl1.2-dev. Since libsdl1.2-dev now depends on libjpeg8-dev this
renders the build dependencies uninstallable. The fix is to change
 the libjpeg62-dev build-dependency to libjpeg8-dev.

Yup, that's (also) #634637.

Cheers,
gregor

This bug might be fixed by latest upload (verioned 1.14.1-2). At
least, I don't see those warnings anymore...

Yes, I have put in upstream's fixes for the problem.

Note that this bug is blocking OCaml 3.12.1 from migration to testing.
I'd appreciate a quick answer from the maintainer on the status of
 this bug.

Oh, sorry. I wasn't aware about that.

Cheers,

Bug#647749: Patch

2011-11-06 Thread Dave Lentz
TWC automatically disabled all existing xmloap licenses on 10/31.
However, they didn't disable the xmloap service itself yet (nor the
ability to get a new license id). The patch will work until TWC's xmloap
service is ended, which could be tomorrow or many moons from now (your
guess is as good as mine).

I applied the patch as shown and my weather plugin is working again. It
will work until TWC ends xmloap or manually disables my license id
(though I can't see why they would do that since the plugin does follow
all of the licensing agreements (non-profit, shows logo and promotional
links, etc.).

Bug#645427: Stopped locking the screen when closing the laptop lid

I just read the whole bug log and noticed that nobody seemed to be

on gnome-session-bin certainly didn't hurt, I suspect that the real

Package: guestfs
Version: 1.12.8-1
Severity: serious

Justification: fails to build from source

While building on Ubuntu, I'm getting the following from the build system.

Function `PyString_AsString' implicitly converted to pointer at
.../../../python/guestfs-py.c:56
Function `PyInt_FromLong' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../../python
/guestfs-py.c:616

Function `PyInt_FromLong' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../../python
/guestfs-py.c:616
Function `PyInt_FromLong' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../../python
/guestfs-py-byhand.c:171

Our automated build log filter detected the problem(s) above that will
likely cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of
a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.

Since use of implicitly converted pointers is always fatal to the application
on ia64, they are errors. Please correct them for your next upload.

More information can be found at:
http://wiki.debian.org/ImplicitPointerConversions;

Looking at the python 3 bindings it looks like all these function prototypes do
not exist in the API - they've all been replaced with equivalent Unicode
functions.

This build log (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/83488108/buildlog_ubuntu-natty-
amd64.libguestfs_1.12.8-1~natty1~ppa1_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz) shows that much of
the compilation of the python 3.1 and 3.2 bindings failed to obtain the correct
prototypes, e.g.

../../../python/guestfs-py.c: In function 'get_string_list':
.../../../python/guestfs-py.c:56:5: warning: implicit declaration of function
'PyString_AsString'
.../../../python/guestfs-py.c:56:10: warning: assignment makes pointer from
integer without a cast
Function `PyString_AsString' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../../python
/guestfs-py.c:56

A cursory glance at the generators suggest that there is a fair bit of work to
make this python 3 compatible.

Sure enough, GConf no longer has anything under /apps/gnome-screensaver.
The workaround given in that bug, setting
/apps/gnome-screensaver/lock_enabled, works perfectly. Thanks!

Perhaps gnome-screensaver needs to have a Breaks on versions of
gnome-power-manager without the patch? This should work:

Hi,
please remove the sugar-read-activity-0.84 and sugar-read-activity-0.86
package from the archive. They both depend on python-evince, which has
been removed from gnome-python-desktop. So those packages are currently
not installable in unstable and they block the ongoing GNOME 3 transition.

I talked to Jonas Smedegaard, the maintainer, and he agreed that they
should be removed from the archive.
The only reverse dependencies are the the sucrose-0.8[468]
meta packages. Those will be updated accordingly.

2011-11-06 Thread Alexander Kurtz
Thank you for merging the bugs. Please note that the workaround is no
longer necessary since g-p-m has been patched meanwhile[0]. Part of the
fix was also to add a dependency on gnome-screensaver (= 3.0). This
should avoid partial upgrades.

Best regards

Bug#647749: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#647749: Patch

However, they didn't disable the xmloap service itself yet (nor the
ability to get a new license id). The patch will work until TWC's xmloap
service is ended, which could be tomorrow or many moons from now (your
guess is as good as mine).

Well, they revoked the licenses for a reason. They intend to shut the
service down and pass to a paid service. If we manage to fix the plugin
just to have it disabled again in the next future, it might not be worth
it. It might be worth changing provider though.

In any case, thanks for the patch, it might be at least a band-aid
solution for stable where changing provider isn't exactly possible
anyway.

For the rest, feel free to push that upstream (I won't do that, it's
your license).

Bug#645427: Stopped locking the screen when closing the laptop lid

Thank you for merging the bugs. Please note that the workaround is no
longer necessary since g-p-m has been patched meanwhile[0]. Part of the
fix was also to add a dependency on gnome-screensaver (= 3.0). This
 should avoid partial upgrades.

I needed the workaround because I haven't upgraded to GNOME3 yet; I need
to wait until I have time to figure out the various configuration
changes I'll need to make.

Also, having gnome-power-manager depend on newer gnome-screensaver
solves half the problem, but that doesn't prevent someone from upgrading
gnome-screensaver and not upgrading gnome-power-manager, which would
introduce this bug. Hence my suggestion of having gnome-screensaver add
a Breaks on older gnome-power-manager.

Package: sugar-read-activity-0.84
Version: 69-4
Severity: important

Hi,

sugar-read-activity uses python-evince, a python binding for libevince
which is part of gnome-python-desktop 2.32.

python-evince will no longer be buildable, as soon as we upload evince
3.0 to unstable (it's currently available in experimental)
The bindings for libevdocument and libevview in version 3.0 are
generated using the GObject Introspection framework [1].

Your package needs to be updated to use that new binding infrastructure.

Cheers,
Michael

We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

sugar-read-activity-0.84 | 69-4 | source, all

--- Reason ---
ROM, uninstallable, blocks GNOME 3 transition
--

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 637...@bugs.debian.org.

Bug#565094: FTBFS with libcurl4-gnutls-dev 7.21.7-1 on alpha

2011-11-06 Thread peter green

tags 636559 +patch
thanks

Note that despite the bug title this issue is not alpha specific, it impacts
all architures.

I've attatched a patch that gets the package building again. Within the patch
are three fixes

1: improve debian/rules clean. It's not perfect but at least it avoids
unrepresendable changes to source. This isn't strictly needed to fix
the FTBFS but working on packages without a usable clean target is a

  PITA
2: remove includes of the obsolete curl/types.h from multiple places in
  the source
3: fix several gcc 4.6 related failures

Given the lack of maintainer activity I have cc'd luk in case he is
interested in making another NMU (he uploaded the current version)

Bug#614907: Is anyone maintaining (the ham radio tool) node?

2011-11-06 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Patrick Ouellette wrote:

You claim to not use either package, but yet you advocate for the node.js
package to keep the executable name node - this is strange to me.

Sorry, I must have been unclear. I was only explaining my preference.
I wasn't lying. I also said:

However, if the only way to include both node and nodejs in
wheezy is for the interpreter binary to be renamed, too, that's ok
 with me.

Indeed, renaming both is what policy (and good sense) requires in the
absence of consensus. I guess it was foolish of me to imagine that
there could be a discussion resulting in consensus based on something
other than which tool is most important! (Both tools are obviously
important in their communities.)

[...]
Are you a ham radio operator, or do you have another reason to be interested
in the eventual name of the ham radio package?
[...]
When the ham radio maintainers decide on how to implement the
 fix, they will.

No, I am not a ham radio operator. I was worried because this
(release-critical) bug had received no response for three quarters of
a year. I'm glad to hear you say when rather than if here --- as
far as I can tell, you are saying that I should not be worried and
this bug is not stalled after all.

I am interested in Debian remaining useful for a variety of purposes,
which is why I want to see some proposed fix enter unstable early
enough to shake out problems so wheezy can both include fundamental
tools for ham radio operators and for web developers.

Sorry for the lack of clarity.
Jonathan

Package: libpam0g
Version: 1.1.3-2
Severity: normal

I just upgraded from gdm to gdm3 a few weeks ago. Today in my daily
dist-upgrade of testing I got a new libpam0g. I always upgrade while
being logged in, and to my surprise, the upgrade killed gdm3 in the
process... It never did that when I still ran gdm... Does the
(postinst?) script not take gdm3 into account?

Please fix this. I lost some work due to this :(

   * debian/patches-applied/hurd_no_setfsuid: we don't want to check all
setre*id() calls; we know that there are situations where some of these
may fail but we don't care. As long as the last setre*id() call in each
set succeeds, that's the state we mean to be in.
   * debian/libpam0g.postinst: according to Kubuntu developers, kdm no longer
keeps libpam loaded persistently at runtime, so it's not necessary to
force a kdm restart on ABI bump. Which is good, since restarting kdm
now seems to also log users out of running sessions, which we rather
 want to avoid. Closes:

Bug#614907: Is anyone maintaining (the ham radio tool) node?

2011-11-06 Thread Jonathan Nieder
(+cc: nod...@packages.debian.org. Sorry for the noise.)
Jonathan Nieder wrote:
 Patrick Ouellette wrote:

Sorry, I must have been unclear.

A few more words of clarification:

It might seems strange that someone using neither package cares about
these bugs. So here is why I care:

 1. I use Debian. I do not want it to be broken (one aspect of broken
is the same command having different effects depending on which
package is installed). My experience is that for better or worse, if
the project can't fix a bug like this one, new maintainers of other
packages in similar situations will take it as an example and
introduce even more breakage.

 2. Ham radio projects seem neat to me. Lots of nice people,
including John Goerzen, are ham radio operators. It would be nice
to make sure Debian continues to make their lives pleasant and
makes my life pleasant if I ever acquire the appropriate hardware.

 3. node.js seems neat to me. Lots of nice people including Jonas
Smedegaard use it to program. I imagine that at some point in the
future, even if I never start to use the language myself, I might
find myself running programs using it (like has happened to me
with ruby already).

I hope you care some small amount about packages you don't currently use,
too. :)

Hrm, I can't find any r-cran-wavelets package in Debian. It's not in
incoming, either, and as far as I see, it wasn't removed, either. That
suggest it didn't exist. Or that I'm missing something obvious.

Are you sure your package is from Debian, and not some other source?

(the version number suggests it's not from Debian proper)
