The file Yoram is referring to is conf/mount/mount_linux.c in the relevant line linux_version_code(void). Bug#689568: #689568 php5-xdebug: remove dependency on libapache2-mod-php5
Hi Andrew, The php5-xdebug package is configured with a dependency on libapache2-mod-php5, though there is no need to be running under apache, in order to use php5-xdebug. This isn't exact, as the dependency is with a virtual package (phpapi-20090626 for stable and phpapi-20100525 for squeeze). I run a system with nginx and fastcgi. Installing php5-xdebug installed apache, which loaded before nginx on reboot and caused a site outage. The dependency can be satisfied with Apache PHP module, PHP CLI and PHP FCGI, choose what you want. If there aren't any further comments, I'll close this report in a few days. Kaplan
Bug#689791: #689791 php5-xdebug: modifies conffiles during distupgrade from squeeze (policy 10.7.3): /etc/php5/mods-available/xdebug.ini
I guess this is due to this line: Preserving user changes to /etc/php5/mods-available/xdebug.ini (renamed from /etc/php5/conf.d/xdebug.ini)... The problem might be bigger than the policy violation, as if the config file holds the old so file location, the extension won't load - so the package will be defacto broken. This might be relevant for more PHP extensions. It would be a great help if you could provide me the content of both files before and after the upgrade. Kaplan

Bug#604290: [Debian-hebrew-package] Bug#604290: kkbswitch removal
On Sun, Feb 13, 2011 at 2:55 AM, Roman Odaisky to.roma.from.deb...@qwertty.com wrote: As the last upstream release was at 2005, and I believe there is a keyboard indicator / switch utility, I'm fine with removing this package from unstable/testing after the squeeze release. To the best of my knowledge, nothing other than kkbswitch provides per-layout keyboard shortcuts and layout toggle mode in a GUI. [...] Thus there’s no viable alternative to kkbswitch for such a use case. Admittedly, it’s uncommon, but not so because it’s not needed; rather, typical ways of setting up three layouts are inconvenient and users avoid them, not knowing of kkbswitch. I guess there’s quite a number of users with such a need, particularly citizens of bilingual countries or those studying foreign languages (native language + English + another language). Besides, kkbswitch is easily configurable via GUI and does its job fine in KDE 4 despite being a six year old KDE 3 application. It just works. Please only remove it after providing another means of solving the above problems. If someone wants to port kkbswitch from KDE3/QT3 to KDE4/QT4, I'll be more than happy to keep maintaining it. but Debian can't support old libraries for a long times, especially when upstream has newer versions. Along side the porting, to build the package you'll have to add these packages to build-depends: libx11-dev, libxkbfile-dev, libxext-dev, libxt-dev, libjpeg8-dev I'm CCing the kkbswitch author, in case he's interested or know someone who is for doing the porting. Popcon says we have at least 280 installations of kkbswitch. Kaplan

Considering that we're currently shipping a version from 2008, that seems like a good idea anyway. Agreed. My previous comment on that was however that to properly package new upstream we should additionally package the latest PhD which, IMHO, deserves to be in a separate (and hence NEW) package. If the maintainer is willing to go that way, I believe it would be the most appropriate solution. Unfortunately, I've thus far been unable to get any answer whatsoever on the matter from Lior. Is there any use for PhD outside the php-doc package? If not, I'm not sure it worth to split them to two separate packages. In any case, I'd like to first upload a updated package, and only then try to split them. Kaplan

Bug#334759: efax-gtk: FTBFS on 64 bit arches: libintl.h:40: error: new declaration 'char* gettext(const char*)'
Thanks for letting me know. Seems that the file in the archive is not the one I created. (was acedently changed at my sponsor). To address this problem I've created version 3.0.6.1 at http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e/efax-gtk/ Please test it. If it's OK, I'll arrange an upload. thanks for all the help. They aren't detecting the presence of gettext, even though it is installed, which means that efax-gtk uses its own stub version. Because gettext is in fact installed, the compiler correctly complains that there are two declarations of the function. If you run aclocal, automake and autoconf again in the versions of Debian which don't compile, it should work. Can you let me know if it doesn't? Bug#334759: efax-gtk: FTBFS on 64 bit arches: libintl.h:40: error: new declaration 'char* gettext(const char*)'
The only thing in common is that these archs have libc6.1-dev instead of libc6-dev. But both packages have the same /usr/include/libintl.h file (I ran diff on it). Any idea what could be wrong? Can you test Chris's solution ? But that shouldn't be a part of the package build (IMHO). The problem seems to be this: checking for GNU gettext in libc... no This is caused by an old gettext aclocal macro that has been fixed. The solution is the regenerate the auto* scripts. The gettext macro is in the acinclude.m4 file (instead of the aclocal.m4 file). Package: pvpgn Version: 1.6.4+20040826-1 Followup-For: Bug #257619 Hi, I looked into it, and the start-stop-daemon doesn't stop the daemon since there isn ot pid file (altough refered from the command). Removing this command option makes start-stop-daemon to use killall instead of kill. This of course works just fine and stop the daemon. Package: asc Followup-For: Bug #309677 could you please fix this by uploading the latest version of asc with the archs list trimmed down to i386 and amd64, the archs that seem officially supported by upstream, to t-p-u? I'm not sure if it is possible to fix it this way. If some package was released/built for all archs and then there are problems on one of them then it is RC bug. Reuploading without problematic arch isn't considered as a solution for this RC bug. you said only i386 ia64 are officialy supported, so why not to exclude platform which don't have support?
