The issue is caused by lack of getTimeStampName declaration in xmotd.c. The implicit declaration assumed instead causes the pointer to buf to be cast to an int, in turn causing some truncation of bits which are non-zero in this case of a static buffer placed in a far location in address space

Maybe I'm missing something, but what was the reason for filing #909352 as serious? Looking at #892016 it does not seem like it was the cause of the segfault? Or was it? If not, then getting rid of squeak-plugins-scratch sounds more like a wishlist cleanup request to me than a serious bug. All

Bastien, the screenshot is there, in the artifact tarball from autopkgtest. I had some free time today and took a look at this in some detail. The problem is indeed in the changed output format from "convert", bambam is working as expected. I have a fix ready and hope to upload it this weekend

Thanks for the report. Since showing text is proven to still work (as seen in the screenshots) I suspect the app is no longer receiving the (simulated) keypresses, because otherwise it should show at least the colorful "m" letters (even if rendering pictures would stop working for some reason).
