Okay, found time for some more testing. It seems that libwacom2 0.19 is probably off the hook here: the problem can be made to go away by merely switching versions of mutter (+ libmutter) for all tablets on my test bench. Thank you for the update to 0.22, nevertheless. Doubtless it will be needed

Confirmed. This bug breaks all graphics tablets in GNOME (at least). It is not specific to the driver. See the attached logs. Symptoms: when a graphics tablet is plugged in, within a few seconds the running X session terminates. Examining the logs reveals repeated segfaults from gnome-shell
