I also had to hack my list2cds-cram code to use kilobytes [...]
I think instead of depending on python, or any other big, and complicated
stuff it is enough to use bc for this task.
It is small and can work with bigger numbers too :)

I can't believe the debian team promotes proprietary instead of free
software ! For me debian was the distribution which was the most
pro-free software.
Just look at the one core component of the Debian GNU/Linux. The kernel.
It is developed in a system which is a proprietary stuff. :)

One things that came up in the BTS is that the debian-cd package
currently doesn't need to manipulate the *.bin images that
boot-floppies makes for it. If I understand correctly what we are
discussing here the debian-cd package will need to 'mount -o loop'
during the build to add those files.
