Look into kde/kdm's bug list. It does some things very badly here (have heard the X maint gripe more than once on this).

Just to let people know who are interested...I've been given CVS access to the kde source so that I can update and keep up to date the kde packages. Stephen has plans for the future (ie, kde 2.0.x and beyond) and just doesn't have time to keep the stuff updated at this time and I volunteered to do
