Re: Resigning from Debian

2009-07-08 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
* Sven Joachim (svenj...@gmx.de) :
 Nice to hear that you don't give up on backup-manager. I would like to
 take over the Debian package (will need a sponsor, though).

Thanks for taking over backup-manager.

As a regular bug-reporter and patch contributor, you're a legitimate
maintainer.

See you

Re: Resigning from Debian

2009-07-08 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
* Sandro Tosi (mo...@debian.org) :
 Good luck for the future and thanks a lot for all your contributions!

  Feel free to orphan/adopt all of my packages.

  electricsheep[1] deserves a prioritary adoption: a major upstream
  version has been released and Debian's is now deprecated.

 I'm just handled all your packages as per MIA processes, expect
 electricsheep and tinymce that have already people interested in their
 adoption

Ok, I've seen that, thanks!

BTW, Sven Joachim also proposed to take over the package backup-manager.

He's been contributing to backup-manager's source for a while, so I
think he'll make a good Debian maintainer for that package.

He needs a sponsor to do so, as he's not a DD. Maybe someone here would
be willing to sponsor him.

I'd like to adopt electricsheep.

You're welcome. I suggest you contact Spot Draves, the upstream author
if you need any information regarding the new major upstream version.

Good luck,

What's the status of tinymce? Is there someone else in Debain Webapps

Andrea De Iacovo[1], maintainer of Wordpress, did tell me he wanted to
adopt tinymce, as wordpress depends on it.

I agreed, maybe you can contact him and see if you can work together?

Resigning from Debian

2009-07-06 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Hi,

It's been a very long time since I worked for Debian, and my packages
have been actually unmaintained for a while.

This is because of two major reasons:

- My paid work is time and energy consuming, hence my freetime is precious

- During the last months, I've lost the motivation and the energy to
  honnor my Debian activities.

It's been a pleasure to contribute to that beautiful project,
and I wish the very best to the whole community.

Feel free to orphan/adopt all of my packages.

electricsheep[1] deserves a prioritary adoption: a major upstream
version has been released and Debian's is now deprecated.

Note that the remaining freetime I have for free software will be
dedicated to maintain Backup Manager's[2] source code (upstream)
so the new maintainer of that package[3] should keep in touch with me
to provide optimal maintenance.

Please remove me from the developers keyring.

All the best.

Bug#467206: ITP: libcoat-perl -- light and Moose-compatible meta-class for Perl5

2008-02-23 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libcoat-perl
  Version : 0.1_0.6
  Upstream Author : Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Coat/
* License : GPL, Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : light and Moose-compatible meta-class for Perl5

This module was inspired by the excellent Moose meta class which provides
enhanced object creation for Perl5.

Moose is great, but has huge dependencies which makes it difficult to
use in restricted environments.

This module implements the basic goodness of Moose, namely accessors
automagic, hook modifiers and inheritance facilities.

It is not Moose but the small bunch of features provided are
Moose-compatible. That means you can start with Coat and, if later you
get to the point where you can or want to upgrade to Moose, your code won't
have to change : every features provided by Coat exist in the Moose's API (but
the opposite is not true, as you can imagine).

Bug#467211: ITP: libdbix-sequence-perl -- simple SQL92 ID generator

2008-02-23 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libdbix-sequence-perl
  Version : 1.5
  Upstream Author : Benoit Beausejour [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/DBIx-Sequence/
* License : GPL, Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : simple SQL92 ID generator

This module is intended to give easier portability to Perl database application
by providing a database independant unique ID generator. This way, an
application developer is not bound to use his database's SEQUENCE or
auto_increment thus making his application portable on multiple database
environnements.

This module implements a simple Spin Locker mechanism and is garanteed to
return a unique value every time it is called, even with concurrent processes.
It uses your database for its state storage with ANSI SQL92 compliant SQL. All
SQL queries inside DBIx::Sequence are pre cached and very efficient especially
under mod_perl.

Bug#467208: ITP: libcoat-persistent-perl -- Ruby's ActiveRecord::Base port for Perl (ORM)

2008-02-23 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libcoat-persistent-perl
  Version : 0.0._0.5
  Upstream Author : Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Coat-Persistent/
* License : GPL, Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Ruby's ActiveRecord::Base port for Perl (ORM)

Coat::Persistent is an object - relational-databases mapper, it allows
you to build instances of objects and save them into a database
transparently.

You basically define a mapping rule, either global or per-class and
play with your objects without bothering with SQL for simple cases
(selecting, inserting, updating).

Coat::Peristent lets you use SQL if you want to, considering SQL
is the best language when dealing with compelx queries.

Coat is inspired from the API of the Rails' ORM: ActiveRecord::Base.

Call for volunteers for Bugzilla (was: Re: Status of Bugzilla v3.0 for Debian)

2007-08-18 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
* Raphael Bossek ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) :
 what is your timeline for Bugzilla v3.0 ? I would very mutch appreciate
 the new release in testing.

Hi,

I've been maintaining Bugzilla since sarge is released. It's a lot of
work when you're alone on such a volatile piece of software, moreover
when upstream releases oftenly new major versions.

It used to work as I had enough freetime to deal with it, but I must
admit I can't keep bugzilla in a good shape by my own now. Mostly because
my debian time is used for other packages.

I was intending to orphan bugzilla but decided to open the
maintenance to others, if that's possible. If not, I guess I'll have to
orphan it for real.

Hence, I'm sending this call for volunteers. If you like to join me and
help me packaging bugzilla 3 for debian, you're welcome.

The IRC chan #debian-webapps is there for coordination, the list
[EMAIL PROTECTED] can be used too.

Bugzilla sources are handeld in Alioth's svn repo:
svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/srv/svn.debian.org/svn/webapps-common/packages/bugzilla

The package is already officially maintained by the Debian Webapps Team
(I put myself as an uploader in my last upload).

I suppose one or two volunteers would be enough to deal correctly with
the package.

So if you're interested feel free to join. Note that debian/bugzilla
users are also welcome to join the IRC chan, that can be helpful for
testing upcoming packages.

Regards,

Bug#438484: ITP: libdata-dump-streamer-perl -- Perl module for accurately serializing a data structure as Perl code

2007-08-17 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libdata-dump-streamer-perl
  Version : 2.03-30
  Upstream Author : Yves Orton [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~yves/Data-Dump-Streamer-2.03-30/lib/Data/Dump/Streamer.pm
* License : Artistic License
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Perl module for accurately serializing a data structure as
Perl code

Given a list of scalars or reference variables, writes out their contents in
perl syntax. The references can also be objects. The contents of each variable
is output using the least number of Perl statements as convenient, usually only
one. Self-referential structures, closures, and objects are output correctly.

The return value can be evaled to get back an identical copy of the original
reference structure. In some cases this may require the use of utility subs
that Data::Dump::Streamer will optionally export.

This module is very similar in concept to the core module Data::Dumper, with
the major differences being that this module is designed to output to a stream
instead of constructing its output in memory (trading speed for memory), and
that the traversal over the data structure is effectively breadth first versus
the depth first traversal done by the others.

In fact the data structure is scanned twice, first in breadth first mode to
perform structural analysis, and then in depth first mode to actually produce
the output, but obeying the depth relationships of the first pass.

Lexical::Persistence does a few things, all related. Note that all the
behaviors listed here are the defaults. Subclasses can override nearly
every aspect of Lexical::Persistence's behavior.

Lexical::Persistence lets your code access persistent data through
lexical variables. This example prints some value because the value of
$x perists in the $lp object between setter() and getter().

This module is a role which provides an alternate constructor for creating
objects using parameters passed in from the command line.

This module attempts to DWIM as much as possible with the command line params
by introspecting your class's attributes. It will use the name of your
attribute as the command line option, and if there is a type constraint
defined, it will configure Getopt::Long to handle the option accordingly.

You can use the attribute metaclass MooseX::Getopt::Meta::Attribute to get
non-default commandline option names and aliases.

Bug#438490: ITP: libnamespace-clean-perl -- Perl module for keeping imports and functions out of the current namespace

2007-08-17 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libnamespace-clean-perl
  Version : 0.05
  Upstream Author : Robert 'phaylon' Sedlacek [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL
:http://search.cpan.org/~phaylon/namespace-clean-0.05/lib/namespace/clean.pm
* License : Artistic Licence
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Perl module for keeping imports and functions out of the
current namespace

When you define a function, or import one, into a Perl package, it will
naturally also be available as a method. This does not per se cause problems,
but it can complicate subclassing and, for example, plugin classes that are
included via multiple inheritance by loading them as base classes.

The namespace::clean pragma will remove all previously declared or imported
symbols at the end of the current package's compile cycle. Functions called in
the package itself will still be bound by their name, but they won't show up as
methods on your class or instances.

Bug#438489: ITP: libmoosex-object-pluggable-perl -- Moose role for loading and handling plugins within a Moose class

2007-08-17 Thread Alexis Sukrieh

* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~groditi/MooseX-Object-Pluggable-0.0005/lib/MooseX/Object/Pluggable.pm
* License : Artistic Licence
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Moose role for loading and handling plugins within a Moose
class

This module is meant to be loaded as a role from Moose-based classes it will
add five methods and four attributes to assist you with the loading and
handling of plugins and extensions for plugins.

Plugins and extensions are just Roles by a fancy name. They are loaded at
runtime on demand and are instance, not class based. This means that if you
have more than one instance of a class they can all have different plugins
loaded. This is a feature.

Plugin methods are allowed to around, before, after their consuming classes, so
it is important to watch for load order as plugins can and will overload each
other. You may also add attributes through has.

Re: The number of etch installations is rocketing...

Lars Wirzenius wrote:

I may be wrong, I don't know, but in my opinion a ping to call back home
even if the user said `No' is a evil behaviour and Debian should avoid it.

I agree. If the user says no, we should do nothing.

Indeed, I also think that No here means I don't want to send any kind
of information.

However, changing the popcon debconf question to something like the
following might be an acceptable compromise:

[...]

[ ] No, I do not want to participate at all.
[ ] I want to report once that I have installed Debian.
[ ] I want to participate in the package popularity contest.

That sounds pretty good, and I believe that the blind-user effect Joey
spoke about would be reduced with a select choice.

Bug#399818: ITP: liblogger-syslog-perl -- a simple wrapper over Syslog for Perl

2006-11-22 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: liblogger-syslog-perl
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~sukria/Logger-Syslog-1.0/lib/Logger/Syslog.pm
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Logger::Syslog -- a simple wrapper over Syslog for Perl

You want to deal with syslog, but you don't want to bother with Sys::Syslog,
that module is for you.

Logger::Syslog takes care of everything regarding the Syslog communication, all
you have to do is to use the function you need to send a message to syslog.

Logger::Syslog provides one function per Syslog message level: debug, info,
warning, error, notice, critic, alert.

Logger::Syslog is compliant with mod_perl, all you have to do when using it in
such an environement is to call logger_init() at the beginning of your CGI,
that will garantee that everything will run smoothly (otherwise, issues with
the syslog socket can happen in mod_perl env).

Re: RFP: tinymce -- Web based Javascript HTML WYSIWYG editor

2006-10-25 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
* Moritz Muehlenhoff ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) :
 That would be much appreciated.

The package tinymce has just been uploaded to the NEW queue. FYI it's
the first package handled by the Webapps Team.

You can grab the sources form our SVN repository:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/webapps-common/packages/tinymce/?rev=0sc=0

 * Package name: tinymce
[...]
 The TinyMCE is a collection of JavaScripts that make up a HTML WYSIWYG
 editor that can be attached to any TEXTAREA of a HTML page. It is
 widely used, in fact it is allready in multiple copies in Debian.
[...]
 I would therefore suggest splitting TinyMCE into a package of its
 own. Unfortunately, I'm not a DD myself.

It sounds interesting IMHO, and I could sponsor you if you want to become
responsible of that package.

I would also suggest to package it with the Webapps Policy DRAFT in mind[1].

Feel free to contact me if you have a package to review or want some help
regarding the packaging.

Cheers,

Re: RFP: tinymce -- Web based Javascript HTML WYSIWYG editor

2006-10-24 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
* Kjetil Kjernsmo ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) :
 Well, I do more and more package building these days, but I haven't had
 time to read the policy documents yet, and each time I try to set aside
 time, a disk dies or something. So it is on my agenda, but right now,
 it doesn't seem like I'll have the time before etch is due out... So, I
 don't know...

[ webapps team hat ]

Hmm, ok, then consider that the Debian Webapps Team[1] will maintain that
package.

Feel free to join the team if you like to contribute to the packaging in
the future.

Alexis.

Bug#386932: ITP: libxml-libxml-xpathcontext-perl -- Perl interface to libxml2's xmlXPathContext

2006-09-11 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libxml-libxml-xpathcontext-perl
  Version : 0.07
  Upstream Author : Ilya Martynov [EMAIL PROTECTED] and Petr Pajas [EMAIL
PROTECTED]
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~pajas/XML-LibXML-XPathContext-0.07/XPathContext.pm
* License : Dual Licence : GPL and Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Perl interface to libxml2's xmlXPathContext

This module augments XML::LibXML by providing Perl interface to libxml2's
xmlXPathContext structure. Besides just performing xpath statements on
XML::LibXML's node trees it allows redefining certaint aspects of XPath
engine. This modules allows

  1. registering namespace prefixes,
  2. defining XPath functions in Perl,
  3. defining variable lookup functions in Perl.
  4. cheating the context about current proximity position and
 context size

The module libnet-amazon-s3-perl (needed by backup-manager) depends on
this module, as I intent to package libnet-amazon-s3-perl, as also
intent to package that one.

Re: Policy change about `/usr/lib/cgi-bin' - Mass bug filing pending...

2006-05-04 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
* Tollef Fog Heen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) disait :
 As you might have noticed, the last policy version (3.7.0) says that
 web application packages must not put CGIs under `/usr/lib/cgi-bin'
 anymore:

 Given that apache2 has almost a magnitude more installations than all
 the other web servers in Debian (sans apache 1) combined and the apache
 team has no intentions of adopting the cgi-lib policy, I think the idea
 of cgi-lib is quite dead.

Then, I don't understand why we have this discussion _after_ the policy
has been changed...

I thought the policy was a trustable document, where developers could
find guidelines for their work, it seems that it's not always true. Sad.

 If policy documents something which isn't true and won't be true, it
 should be changed back again.

In the meantime, do you suggest to use lintian overrides for fixing this
in webapp packages or purely ignoring the lintian complaints?

I hope we can solve that issue soon, it's pretty confusing for maintainers.

Kind Regards,

Alexis.

Policy change about `/usr/lib/cgi-bin' - Mass bug filing pending...

2006-05-03 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
Hello,

As you might have noticed, the last policy version (3.7.0) says that
web application packages must not put CGIs under `/usr/lib/cgi-bin'
anymore:

Quoting lintian:

This is done to avoid conflicts with the cgi-bin script alias,
which is reserved for the local use of webmasters.

CGIs must be put under /usr/lib/cgi-lib now.

I must say that I was surprised [1] to learn that with lintian, and would
have liked to read an announcement for that change on a mailing list
(for instance the webapps one which sounds to be the appropriate).

I won't discuss here the goodwill of this change, I just want to
point out that by now, 110 packages are RC bug candidates because of
this [2] (422 files installed inder `/usr/lib/cgi-bin').

As a webapp maintainer I would like to now if everything is fine in our
Debian system for moving safely our CGIs from cgi-bin/ to cgi-lib/. I
must say I fear upgrades and breakages if the webserver does not provide
good aliasing features...

Find attached the list of 110 packages affected by this policy change.

1: http://lists.debian.org/debian-webapps/2006/05/msg4.html
2:
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?word=%2Fusr%2Flib%2Fcgi-binsearchmode=searchfilesanddirscase=insensitiveversion=unstable

Regards,

Alexis.
