I have joined Nobuhiro to help supporting the sh4 port. I am currently
working on to reactive the build queue again. Needs-Build on sh4 is
currently over 4000 and I need to build a couple of essential packages
like gcc-4.9, gcc-4.8 and python2.7 manually to be able to resolve
the dependency problems.

gcc-4.9 has been building since Wednesday but it's looking good. I hope
to have the packages uploaded over the weekend.

Cheers,
Adrian

Please, consider the above commitments rescinded.

Thanks a lot for your work and professional feedback. Sorry to see you
leave Debian and look forward to see you as upstream provider.

Verbatim from a mail to debian-hurd:
I've been progressively scaling down my involvement in Debian (due to
continued dissatisfaction with the project), and given that I've not
been very active maintaining GNU/Hurd packages since the switch of the
packaging to git (as I find maintaining packaging with full upstream
sources in the same repo slightly annoying), but mostly because Samuel
has been doing excellent work anyway so I didn't need to do
 anything :),
I thought it would be proper to make the records match reality, so I'm
 leaving the team.

I just removed myself from Uploaders from the gnumach and mig
 packages,
from the web site [O] and from the debian-hurd and pkg-hurd alioth
projects, for which I was still admin.

   [O] http://www.debian.org/intro/organization

I probably will still be lurking around, and might show up in the
upstream lists or here from time to time, though.

Amazing that no-one from Debian side have noticed you are phasing
yourself out. Well, maybe other distros can be potential new Debian
replacements. Currently I'm staying, but if something better pops up,
I'll switch faster than light (including kfreebsd and hurd of course)

Hi,

Nothing motivates like a deadline...

I am an active porter for the following architectures and I intend
to continue this for the lifetime of the jessie release:

For kfreebsd-amd64 and kfreebsd-i386, I
  - test many packages on this architecture
  - triage arch-specific bugs
  - fix arch-related bugs
  - keep an eye on buildds
  - stay current with debian-bsd@lists.d.o
  - help with wheezy security support for arch-specific packages

Furthermore I run kfreebsd-amd64 on a development machine, and on a
number of production servers. I use kfreebsd-i386 on some embedded
systems in a production environment.

I am not a DD/DM, but maybe someday...

Thanks!

I want to focus on system usable issue like GUI or driver issue and back

So please, keep ia64 in the bandwagon ;-)

But I don't think ia64 is well-supported even in wheezy. The kernel
doesn't boot on some common machines and no-one seems to be able to fix
 it.

I'm the most recent person to report that bug. Unfortunately I run a sole
ia64 box in a production setting and I only have physical access to it
during business hours (and no management card) which makes experimenting
with kernels difficult.

I would be more than happy to sign up as a porter for ia64 however I would
need to obtain more hardware. HP rx1620s can be had on eBay for $100 but
they are located in California and shipping + customs to Slovakia is not
worth it :-/

If someone is willing to donate hardware, or knows of a cheap source of
ia64 hardware in Europe I'm more than happy to host it here, maintain it,
provide access to developers, and time permitting test and and help
diagnose ia64-specific problems with the base system for the lifetime of
the jessie release.

I am also a long-time Debian user (10 years, mostly x86/amd64, alpha in
the past, some arm work and ia64 from the time I've had this hardware). I
am not a DD/DM but have experience as a package maintainer via sponsorship
in the past.

Re: Roll call for porters of architectures in sid and testing (Status update)

2013-09-20 Thread Michael Cree
FWIW, I am a porter of the Alpha architecture in the following ways:

 - run a buildd
 - kernel support
 - work with upstreams for toolchain support
 - general porting work including filing bugs and patches

I doubt if I will continue that for the life cycle of Jessie given that
many of the former faithful seem to be deserting alpha and I don't fancy
being the last one left to turn off the lights.

But possibly of interest is that I seem to be finding myself using arm
based hardware more and more and I anticipate that I might soon be doing
arm porting work. Whether that is for all or just a subset of arm ports
is yet to be seen.

I am subscribed to the debian-alpha and debian-arm mail lists.

I am not a DD.

Cheers
Michael.

Hi all,

Here is a little status update on the mails we have received so far.
First off, thanks to all the porters who have already replied!

So far, the *no one* has stepped up to back the following architectures:

   hurd-i386
   ia64
   mips
   mipsel
   s390x

I have pinged some people and #d-hurd, so this will hopefully be amended
soon. Remember that the *deadline is 1st of October*.

In the list above, I excluded:

amd64 and i386: requirement for porters is waived
s390: Being removed from testing during the Jessie cycle
(Agreement made during the Wheezy release cycle)

The following table shows the porters for each architecture in
*unstable* that I have data on so far:

armel: Wookey (DD)
armhf: Jeremiah Foster (!DD, but NM?), Wookey (DD)
kfreebsd-amd64: Christoph Egger (DD), Axel Beckert (DD),
Petr Salinger (!DD), Robert Millan (DD)
kfreebsd-i386: Christoph Egger (DD), Axel Beckert (DD),
Petr Salinger (!DD), Robert Millan (DD)
powerpc: Geoff Levand (!DD), Roger Leigh (DD)
sparc: Axel Beckert (DD), Rainer Herbst (!DD)

If you are missing from this list above, then I have missed your email.
Please follow up to this mail with a message-ID (or resend it,
whichever you prefer).

We also got a number of people interested in architectures not currently
in unstable. These are:

alpha: Bill MacAllister (!DD), Kieron Gillespie (!DD)
  arm64: Wookey (DD)
  parisc/hppa: Helge Deller (!DD)
  ppc64: Steven Gawroriski (!DD)
sparc64: Steven Gawroriski (!DD), Kieron Gillespie (!DD)

This will hopefully teach me to remember to include the in unstable
restriction to the next roll call. :) Anyhow, if you are working on
these architectures on debian-ports and saw a new name in the list
above, this might be an opportunity to recruit new people.

We also received a couple of emails from people who are not or did not
want to be porters at the moment. However, they expressed an interest
in the architectures:

  David Kuehling: mipsel
- debug arch-related issues
  Meelis Roos: ppc, sparc64 (parisc)
- test and report bugs in upstream kernel
  Peter Green: armhf (possibly any-arm)
- works on raspbian

In the template email included in the roll call, we included some tasks
that people might be doing. These are the task people have said they
are doing for a given port.

  * test packages: armhf, kfreebsd-amd64 (x4), kfreebsd-i386 (x4),
 powerpc, sparc (x2)
  * fix toolchain issues: armhf, powerpc
  * triage arch-specific bugs: armhf, kfreebsd-amd64 (x3),
 kfreebsd-i386 (x3), powerpc, sparc (x2)
  * fix arch-related bugs: armhf, kfreebsd-amd64 (x3),
  kfreebsd-i386 (x3), powerpc
  * maintain buildds: armhf, kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386

NB: I have manually translated some prose-text into the items above, so
something might have been lost (or gained) in that translation.

Some of the porters also added some new items. I have included some of
these items below:

  + test d-i when needed: powerpc (x2)
  + maintain arch-related pkgs: kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386
  + maintain non-DSA porter box: kfreebsd-amd64
  + maintain production system of $arch: sparc/stable
+ can offer hardware access[1]: sparc (Axel Beckert)
  + eglibc issues: kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386
  + maintain+test cross-toolchains for $arch: armel, armhf

~Niels

[1] Restrictions may apply.

Hi!

I'm not a DD or DM, but an upstream contributor and maintainer for the
toolchain, both for different things at work, and in my free time for the
Hurd. I have no plans to stop this, so this will cover the jessie
lifetime. As time permits, I also work on the Hurd itself, and advise
contributors in porting issues as well as work on porting issues myself.

Using your template: For Hurd, I fix toolchain issues, and to a lesser
degree triage arch-specific bugs and fix arch-related bugs.

Re: Roll call for porters of architectures in sid and testing

2013-09-01 Thread Christoph Egger
Hi,

I am an active porter for the following architectures and I intend
to continue this for the lifetime of the jessie release:

For kfreebsd-*, I
- test packages on this architecture

This includes running a Desktop (Notebook) System on testing and am
therefore testing the relevant stack every day

- triage arch-specific bugs

I've been working on regressions for some time and plan to continue
there (in the past I've worked e.g. on libxcb, emacs and the kernel
+ lots of build failures)

- fix arch-related bugs
- maintain buildds

I am a DD

Hi, sorry I'm not a skilled programmer, I just have a historic SGI O2 to
play around with a bit. If the hardware dies, I won't really have any
reaspn to stay involved with this port.

 Hi,

As we announced in [LAST-BITS], we would like to get a better idea of
that status of the ports, to make an informed decision about which
port can be released with jessie. One of the steps is to get an
overview of which of the porters are (still) active for each
port. Once the results from the role-call are in, we will request
other information about the status of the ports. In the meantime, feel
free to update and collect info about the ports in the Debian wiki[WIKI].

If you are (or intend to become) an active porter for the lifetime of
jessie, then please send a signed email explaining your involvement in
the port to the Release Team debian-rele...@lists.debian.org before
1st of October 2013. Please explain the level of your involvement in
 the port.

Feel free to use the following template as your reply:

   For ARCH, I
   - test (most|all) packages on this architecture

   - triage arch-specific bugs
   - fix arch-related bugs
   - maintain buildds
   - ...

Still cool that you have one though!
