I think that would be sufficient for people to figure out that there are
high-level alternatives they can use if they don't like the idea of
hardcoding invocations in maintainer scripts.

Hello,
currently, dpkg-maintscript-helper's manpage documents creating various
maintainer scripts to run it.
It turns out that dh_installdeb has support for doing that
automatically, and it should be preferred to manually maintaining
scripts.
