Bug#330735: glibc: Binaries in library debs
Package: glibc Severity: wishlist Hi, the libc6 and libc6-dev packages contain binaries as well as the shared libs. This makes it impossible for future soname changes to coexist. While this might not be a big concern for libc6 it also affects the multiarch plans. The libc6:i386 and libc6:amd64 packages would have file overlaps. Please split out the binaries into seperate libc6-bin and libc6-bin-dev packages. libc6: /sbin/ldconfig libc6: /usr/bin/ldd libc6: /usr/bin/iconv libc6: /usr/bin/zdump libc6: /usr/bin/rpcinfo libc6: /usr/bin/tzselect libc6: /usr/bin/getconf libc6: /usr/bin/getent libc6: /usr/bin/locale libc6: /usr/bin/localedef libc6: /usr/bin/catchsegv libc6: /usr/sbin/zic libc6: /usr/sbin/tzconfig libc6: /usr/sbin/iconvconfig libc6-dev: /usr/bin/gencat libc6-dev: /usr/bin/mtrace libc6-dev: /usr/bin/rpcgen MfG Goswin -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.27-rc5+skas3+acl Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". That's a workaround, not a solution. The correct solution is to upgrade to the fixed version of libpam-modules - the package that caused the problem - which should hit mirrors tonight (0.79-2) > Maybe this issue should be reflected in the next version of the > locales package so that the pam_env.conf file will be upgraded > properly by any `dpkg-reconfigure locales`. No. locales shouldn't, and more to the point *can't*, touch pam_env.conf, as it belongs to an entirely different package. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -S /etc/security/pam_env.conf libpam-modules: /etc/security/pam_env.conf (Hence the first paragraph above, and the fact that I reassigned and closed this bug earlier). Bug#330701:
Hi, I had the same problem a few minutes ago and figured out that the locales packages doesn't erflect the changes that have been made in the login package: # cat /etc/pam.d/su [...] # This module parses /etc/environment (the standard for setting # environ vars) and also allows you to use an extended config # file /etc/security/pam_env.conf. # (Replaces the `ENVIRON_FILE' setting from login.defs) auth required pam_env.so [...] This means that you have to add something like [EMAIL PROTECTED] to your /etc/security/pam_env.conf and everything should work again as usual. Maybe this issue should be reflected in the next version of the locales package so that the pam_env.conf file will be upgraded properly by any `dpkg-reconfigure locales`. Bug#330701: locales: LANG from /etc/environment is not chosen, always LANG= and POSIX
Package: locales Version: 2.3.5-6 Severity: important Tags: l10n -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I don't know exactly since when (I upgrade my Debian unstable every morning and anyway since no more than a week), but now the LANG variable is no more set (and so the locales): = [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ locale LANG= LC_CTYPE="POSIX" LC_NUMERIC="POSIX" LC_TIME="POSIX" LC_COLLATE="POSIX" LC_MONETARY="POSIX" LC_MESSAGES="POSIX" LC_PAPER="POSIX" LC_NAME="POSIX" LC_ADDRESS="POSIX" LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX" LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX" LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX" LC_ALL= [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ = I tried to change it with `dpkg-reconfigure -plow locales` (even if my priority is already low), but while the LANG is changed in the /etc/environment file, `locale` never shows it (and I always have POSIX...). `export LANG=en_US.UTF-8` works, but AFAIK this shouldn't be done if LANG is set in /etc/environment. Am I missing some new changes? Other than the daily upgrades, I haven't changed my locales since a while. Bug#330671: debconf forgets one generated locales
Package: locales Version: 2.3.5-6 Severity: normal Hello. This bug shows up during the debconf questioning for the "locales" package, when installing after purging, or when dpkg-reconfiguring after installation. It affects the "dialog" frontend, but neither "readline" nor "editor". Maybe it should be reported as a debconf bug. In the first debconf menu "Select locales to be generated", select n languages. Say: [X] fr_FR ISO-8859-1 [X] fr_FR.UTF-8 UTF-8 [X] [EMAIL PROTECTED] ISO-8859-15 Only the two last will be present in the second menu "Which locale should be the default in the system environment?". And only those two will actually be generated. I hope this'll help to figure out the problem. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.9.050419 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages locales depends on: ii debconf 1.4.58 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 [glibc-2.3.5-3] 2.3.5-6GNU C Library: Shared libraries an locales recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * locales/default_environment_locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * locales/locales_to_be_generated: fr_FR.UTF-8 UTF-8, [EMAIL PROTECTED] ISO-8859-15 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
