Where specifically does d-i (i.e. which component) create /etc/timezone?

Note that this means that newly installed systems will still have
/etc/timezone, as they won't see the upgrade from versions older than
2022g-3. You probably want to change d-i to not create that file.

Fix not resolving timezone aliases

Commit 2c763ac303df029836edc13b279a9c6a8522cd89 changed `readlink` to
use `--canonicalize-missing` but that resolves **all** symlink including
timezone aliases (e.g. `Arctic/Longyearbyen` points to `Europe/Berlin`).

Revert the code change from commit
2c763ac303df029836edc13b279a9c6a8522cd89 and use `realpath` instead.
This converts relative paths to absolute paths without resolving
symlinks inside the path.

Fix configuration failure with relative /etc/localtime symlink

If `/etc/localtime` is a relative symlink, configuring the tzdata
package fails with exit status 10 and no error output.

Canonicalize `/etc/localtime` by following every symlink in every
component of the given name recursively (without requirements on
components existence) to determine the correct timezone.

[Git][glibc-team/tzdata][sid] d/t/debconf: Fix removing broken symlink

d/t/debconf: Fix removing broken symlink

If the path points to a symlink, `pathlib.Path.exists` returns whether
the symlink points to an existing file or directory. So `exists` will
return `False` for broken symlinks. The following `symlink_to` will fail
then.

So just try to remove the symlink and ignore `FileNotFoundError`.

I cannot reproduce your problem (using Europe/Paris derived from your
debconf information). Can you post the full output which follows
"Setting up tzdata (2022g-3) ..."? Do you have any special setup?

On my systems where things fail, /etc/localtime is a relative symlink
pointing to ../usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Berlin. Manually replacing this
with an absolute link allows the tzdata update to proceed. Sadly, this
is not an option in a debspawn container (because that tool doesnt allow
manual tinkering with the container).

This also breaks setup of build chroots, test environments etc. I am not
sure whether severity important is high enough for this.
