Dear maintainer(s),

The Release Team considers packages that are out-of-sync between testing
and unstable for more than 30 days as having a Release Critical bug in
testing [1]. Your package src:crosshurd has been trying to migrate for
31 days [2]. Hence, I am filing this bug, but see my last paragraph.

If a package is out of sync between unstable and testing for a longer
period, this usually means that bugs in the package in testing cannot be
fixed via unstable. Additionally, blocked packages can have impact on
other packages, which makes preparing for the release more difficult.
Finally, it often exposes issues with the package and/or
its (reverse-)dependencies. We expect maintainers to fix issues that
hamper the migration of their package in a timely manner.

This bug will trigger auto-removal when appropriate. As with all new
bugs, there will be at least 30 days before the package is auto-removed.

I have immediately closed this bug with the version in unstable, so if
that version or a later version migrates, this bug will no longer affect
testing. I have also tagged this bug to only affect sid and trixie, so
it doesn't affect (old-)stable.

Your package is only blocked because the arch:all binary package(s)
aren't built on a buildd. Unfortunately the Debian infrastructure
doesn't allow arch:all packages to be properly binNMU'ed. Hence, I will
shortly do a no-changes source-only upload to DELAYED/15, closing this
bug. Please let me know if I should delay or cancel that upload.

Paul

Package: gnumach
Version: 1.1.90-2

[ Hello Gordon. This weekend I tested Marcus' cross-install at home and it
worked great. Congratulations to everybody for all the hard work! ].

However, today I tried to do the same with the computer I have at work,
without success: The booting process hangs.

I think that the reason for this is that gnumach contains the "new"
adaptec drivers from Linux 2.0.36 (in fact, I can't install Debian 2.1
from scratch in my system because of this very reason).

If you could forward this upstream so that this is fixed in gnumach,
it would be great.

Thanks.

[Santiago Vila 2005]

I don't know, and it is going to be quite difficult for me to check, because
the computer is currently running woody as a server for a lot of people...

Is there any use keeping this issue open?

Not really.

I suspect the hardware in
question has long since been retired and no-one is using the
Adaptec driver any more.

The hardware was retired a long time ago indeed. When I reported this,
the computer was my personal computer at work. In 2005 it was working
as a printer server in my Department, and that's why it was not
possible for me to test.

Now I don't even work there.

The upstream bug is also flagged with 'need more info', and if no-one
can provide the info, it seem useless to keep the issue open.

I agree, so I'm closing this myself.

I'm quite surprised about the existence of mig-for-host:amd64 and
mig-x86-64-linux-gnu. I'm also a little little surprised about
mig:amd64. Are you sure that these are correct? I think none of them

shed some light as to why they should exist? If not, please remove them.

Package: hurd
Version: 20110519-3

Hi,

Glancing at buildd.debian.org today, I noticed that the git testsuite
has not been passing on hurd for a while. Oh. Running the test suite
by hand, we learn that t9100 and some other tests fail, because the
"svn import" command is completely broken:

$ svn import -m 'some message' directory file://$(pwd)/target
svn: Couldn't perform atomic initialization
svn: disk I/O error
svn: disk I/O error

But I digress. In order to investigate that, I wanted a copy of a
reasonably-recent version of subversion, with debugging symbols. So:

$ svn checkout svn://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/trunk
subversion

Which, um, just sits there. Ok, so switch VTs and attach to it with gdb:

$ ps | grep svn
 5135 3 S 0:00.07 svn checkout
svn://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/subversion/t
 5140 1 S 0:00.00 grep svn
$ gdb -p 5135
GNU gdb (GDB) 7.3-debian
Copyright (C) 2011 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
[more boilerplate snipped]
Attaching to pid 5135
[New Thread 5135.1]
[New Thread 5135.2]

Let's see what it's up to:

(gdb) continue
Continuing.
warning: Can't wait for pid 5135: No child process

Now we return to the original VT and hit ^C.

^Csvn: intr-msg.c:389: _hurd_intr_rpc_mach_msg: Assertion
`m->header.msgh_id == msgid + 100' failed.
Aborted

For completeness, I should mention what gdb sees, too.

warning: Pid 5135 died with unknown exit status, using SIGKILL.

Process terminated with SIGKILL, Killed.
The program no longer exists.
(gdb) quit

Reproducible. Trying to interrupt the "svn checkout" with ^C without
gdb attached to it does nothing, by the way (it just continues
hanging). ^\ kills it, though.

If there's any information I can provide to help track this down, just
ask.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I remember things like this, but also that it has not been happening for
a long time, probably fixed along the intr-msg.c changes.

Hi,

src:hurd uses the build profile "noprof" which is not documented:

https://wiki.debian.org/BuildProfileSpec

Please replace it with a source-package-specific build profile like
pkg.hurd.noprof.

Thanks!

mig is a development package. So installing it by default, by virtue of
being defined with priority "standard", is not appropriate. I've
overriden the priority already to "optional". Please fix the package
itself.

Hello,

dpkg needs to build-depend on hurd-dev because it uses and
. It happens that libc0.3-dev depends on it, and thus hurd-dev
gets pulled on a normal system. But when bootstrapping, libc0.3-dev does
not depend on hurd-dev yet. So dpkg should explicitly build-depend on
hurd-dev to be able to be compiled with the bootstrap libc build.

So could you apply the attached patch?

Thanks,
Samuel

Hi Samuel,

in the stage3 -> stage2 rename, another mistake crept in. You also moved
some headers around. In doing so, you had to split up the match for
usr/include and one of the resulting match is usr/include/ddekit, which
is not included for the new stage2 (formerly stage3). However, it lacks
the relevant annotation, so dh_install errors out. Please run
the following sed invocation on a source tree to fix it:

sed -i -e 's:^usr/include/ddekit : &:' debian/hurd-dev.install.in

Just to document and for tracking: the hurd package currently FTBFS with
gcc-10 due to the now-default -fno-common option. A patch was committed
upstream, and will land in Debian soon.

Dear Maintainer,

When calling open(fifo_fd, O_WRONLY | O_NONBLOCK) on an fifo file, which has
no reader, it should return ENXIO. But on Hurd, it returns EIEIO.

This causes s6 failed to start[1], as it expects an ENXIO.

The behaviour should be consistent with

https://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/functions/open.html

> [ENXIO]
> O_NONBLOCK is set, the named file is a FIFO, O_WRONLY is set,

Package: hurd
Severity: normal
Affects: initscripts
Blocks: 922962

Dear Maintainer,

bin:initscripts ships /etc/hurd/runsystem.sysv file on hurd architecture,
thus making bin:initscript arch:any, which is quite unfortunate, given
that both "/etc/hurd/runsystem.sysv" and rest of bin:initscript are
shell scripts.

Please copy this file into bin:hurd and provide apporiate Replaces.

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
   using crosshurd
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
made a directory, issued the 'crosshurd' command, inside crosshurd I chose
a dir, and then i386 architecture (my system is x86_64, but
first of all i386 is the default option for Hurd and secondly behavior for
x86_64 is identical).

   * What was the outcome of this action?
crosshurd breaks citing the lack of i386 architecture. It seems this program
is abandonware, and the repos it points to don't exist.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Download of Hurd packages and setting up a bootable system in the directory
of invocation

Package: hurd
Version: 1:0.9.git20170507-1
Severity: normal

Running debian-hurd-20170613.img under KVM, I'm frequently getting the
following assertion error:

ext2fs: ../../libshouldbeinlibc/refcount.h:171 refcounts_ref: Assertion
'! (r.hard == 1 && r.weak == 0) || !"refcount detected use-after-free!"'
failed.

This seems to happen randomly when doing package builds, etc., and
causes the entire system to freeze, requiring hard reboot of the VM,
fsck, etc.

Package: debhelper
Version: 10.7.2
File: /usr/bin/dh_install
User: helm...@debian.org
Usertags: rebootstrap
Control: affects -1 + src:gnumach

I noticed that cross building a gnumach stage1 for hurd-i386 started to
fail. Sucessful log:

https://jenkins.debian.net/job/rebootstrap_hurd-i386_gcc7/7/console

Failing log:

https://jenkins.debian.net/job/rebootstrap_hurd-i386_gcc7/9/console

Interesting bit: Both use gnumach 2:1.8+git20170609-1. Notable
difference: debhelper 10.2.5 vs 10.7.2.

The failing command is:

| dh_install -pgnumach-image-1.8-486
--sourcedir=/tmp/buildd/gnumach_1/gnumach-1.8+git20170609/debian/tmp boot

In this command line, gnumach-image-1.8-486 is a package disabled by the
profile stage1 and stage1 is active. The file "boot" isn't built an
unavailable. (Applies to both logs.) It seems that gnumach assumes that
"dh_install -pfoo ..." is a noop (regardless of the files referenced) if
foo is disabled by a profile. That assumption was broken somewhere from
debhelper 10.2.5 to 10.7.2.

Whether that assumption is a good one is beyond my judgement. Imo, the
documentation does neither contradict nor support it. If that
assumption is reasonable, it should be documented and restored in
debhelper. Otherwise the bug is found in gnumach and should be fixed
there. Please choose the victim reasonably.

Hi,

Following a discussion[1] on the debian-qa@ mailing list on packages that
missed both jessie and stretch, I am proposing the removal of this package from
unstable, because:

it was in unstable at the time of the stretch freeze
but wasn't part of stretch
AND
it was in unstable at the time of the jessie freeze
but it wasn't part of jessie
AND
it is still not in testing
AND
it was not uploaded since the beginning of 2017.

If you disagree and think that this package should remain in unstable, feel
free to just close this bug.

If this bug is still open one month from now (on 2017-09-06), it will be turned
into a removal request, using:

  reassign -1 ftp.debian.org
retitle -1 RM: netdde -- RoQA; missed both jessie and stretch
  thanks

- Lucas, for the QA team.

Done, but you know you can do it, too? :-)

OTOH, with Hurd living on debian-ports, shouldn't hurd-specific packages
live only on debian-ports too?

At the moment in unstable when booting Hurd using sysvinit, df and
friends do not work because /var/run/mtab do not exist. It should point
to /proc/mounts, and this is done in /etc/hurd/rc when not booting using
sysvinit.

Instead of creating the symlink in /etc/hurd/rc, I suggest to create a
new init.d script to create this symlink, and drop the code from
/etc/hurd/rc. The following script is tested and found to be working
well. It creates /run/mtab because /var/run is a symlink to /run.

Hi!

I was improving the support to get the process executable in
start-stop-daemon to use the new libps proc_stat_set_flags PSTAT_EXE
attribute, instead of having to use argv[0], and while testing I
noticed that several processes return empty filenames, which makes
this unreliable to use. :/

This is visible from the libps API and from /proc:

  ,---
  for l in /proc/*/exe; do n=$(readlink $l); test -z "$n" || continue;\
echo "$l -> '$n'"; grep Name: /proc/$(echo $l|cut -d/ -f3)/status;\
done
  /proc/12/exe -> ''

Dear Maintainer,

please add all missing licenses to your debian/copyright. At least I found
files under:

 MPL (linux/pcmcia-cs/include/pcmcia/*)
 GPL-3 (i386/grub/*)
 GFDL (doc/mach*)
Maybe there are others missing.

Thanks!

--- Begin Message ---
Package: hurd
Version: 1:0.8.git20160809-1
Severity: normal
File: /bin/rpctrace

If the COMMAND argument of rpctrace does not contain slash, then
rpctrace searches for it in PATH. If the file found is a script
file, then the interpreter of the script needs to know the file
name so that it can open the file. However, when rpctrace calls
_hurd_exec_file_name, it specifies COMMAND unchanged as the file
name. The interpreter then typically does not find the file.

For example, /bin/which in debianutils 4.8 has "#! /bin/sh".
If you run:

  cd /
  PATH=/bin
  rpctrace which

then it shows that dash outputs "/bin/sh: 0: Can't open which"
after calling dir_lookup("which" 1 0) in some directory.
rpctrace should specify the correct file name "/bin/which"
instead; then dash would be able to open the file.

Another, more complex test case:

  mkdir testy
  echo '#! /bin/bash' > testy/prog
  echo 'printf "%s\n" "$0"' >> testy/prog
  chmod +x testy/prog
  PATH=$(pwd)/testy /bin/rpctrace -E PATH=/usr/bin:/bin -o /dev/null prog

Actual output:

/bin/bash: prog: No such file or directory

Expected output similar to:

  /home/kalle/testy/prog

Fixing this is simple: get prefixed_name from the existing
file_name_path_lookup call, and if it isn't NULL, then use it
instead of *argv and free it afterwards.

AFAIK, the _hurd_exec_file_name patches are not yet in the
upstream Hurd, so I'm filing this in Debian only.

Package: hurd
Version: 1:0.8.git20160826-1
Severity: normal

The hurd package makes /etc/hurd/runsystem a symlink that is
managed with the alternatives system. The default is
runsystem.sysv, and runsystem.gnu is also available.

However, if I use 'update-alternatives --config runsystem' to
select runsystem.gnu, then the system fails to boot, because
/etc/hurd/runsystem.gnu runs /hurd/init, which requires
/etc/hurd/runsystem.hurd, which does not exist.

I tried to fix this by installing daemons/runsystem.hurd from the
Debian Hurd source tree to /etc/hurd/runsystem.hurd and making it
executable. That helped but there were still several problems:

1. runsystem.hurd runs /libexec/rc, which does not exist.
   /etc/hurd/rc should be used instead.

2. runsystem.hurd runs /libexec/runttys, which does not exist.
   /sbin/runttys should be used instead.

3. runsystem.hurd sets PATH=/bin:/sbin, which omits /usr/bin and
/usr/sbin. The login shell apparently inherits that that
setting and uses it for some startup script, causing errors:
   -bash: id: command not found
-bash: [: : integer expression expected

4. The file systems listed in /etc/fstab were not automatically
mounted. I suppose I could work around this by setting them as
passive translators, but then it would be more difficult to
ensure that a user won't cause the file-system translator to
start while root is running fsck on the store.

5. dhclient did not start automatically. I suppose I could set a
fixed IP address instead, or edit some startup script.

Please make the hurd package install runsystem.hurd to /etc/hurd/,
and patch it to fix problems 1 to 3. That way, runsystem.gnu
will at least work well enough to let root log in and either
switch back to runsystem.sysv or fix problems 4 and 5 locally.

Alternatively, runsystem.gnu could be removed from the package
and unregistered from the alternatives system.

Dear Maintainer,

send/sendto/sendmsg/recv/recvfrom/recvmsg in combination with PF_LOCAL
sockets don't honor MSG_DONTWAIT. If specified, the operation will
block anyway. This is really bad if one has code that relies on the
fact that a recv* returns EAGAIN once all data has been read.

I've reported this to the debian-hurd and bug-hurd mailing lists, and
also provided a reproducer for this issue:
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-hurd/2016-08/msg0.html
https://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2016/08/msg0.html

I've investigated further and found the culprit in hurd's
pflocal/socket.c. I've attached a patch that fixes the issue for me.
I've also sent the patch to both mailing lists:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-hurd/2016/08/msg8.html

Christian

Running crosshurd to install in a disk partition and then running update-grub,
rebooting and selecting the Hurd entry, fails to boot because the Grub
does not find /boot/gnumach.gz (there is /boot/gnumach-1.6-486.gz).

The following patch solves the problem in my case:

-
--- makehurddir.sh 2016-05-22 16:28:32.0 +0200

Afterwards, the Hurd starts to boot but fails (hangs) with the following error
(maybe an issue with partition names):

start ext2fs: ext2fs: device:(hostdisk//dev/sda,msdos2): No such device or
address

Also I have observed that, running "grep TARGET /usr/share/crosshurd/*"
yields some results with "$TARGET/..." quoted and some others not,
so if we run crosshurd with a path with spaces, it may fail.

Hi,

only one source package can build a binary package. Even if the second
source package would build it for a separate set of architectures.
Therefore the libfuse-dev package from src:hurd-libfuse got superseded
by the package built by src:fuse (which has a higher version number).

Please drop this package again and provide a virtual package instead.
(There is some support for versioned Provides, but I'm not sure whether
it is ready for use in packages, yet, as not all tools may understand it)
