That won't work anymore, KDE 4.2 is in testing. Thanks, noted. I'll probably downgrade my KDE package versions to Lenny, but keep the rest on Sid, for as long as I can, and then either downgrade everything to Lenny, try KDE 4.2 again (maybe I can get used to it and work around all the problems

The most effective way would be to compile it. Then the kde3 stuff is in /usr/local or /opt or wherever you choose to put in but not in /usr. I am running Sid-installed kde4 and compiled kde3.5 with out a hitch. The appropriate startkde scripts set env variables and /etc/profile sets PATHs
