Apparently, I'm not the only soul seeing this as: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550330 describes the same behavior I'm seeing. So far no answer on a fix. - Nate -- The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears this is true.
