Ralf again excellent work.

Are you planning on raising an IPT and uploading these packages to unstable?
Or are you in a position to have these packages sponsored into the unstable
distribution?

I would be pleased if bugs in the overall modified build process can be
reported or if everything is functional now (S/MIME, OpenPGP). Especially
pinentry-qt is of interest as it is a Qt frontend which fits best on KDE :-)

lintian(1) picks up quite a few bugs and policy violations and would be worth
going over the packages with.

[rn's debs] kdelibs overwrite problem

Ralf,

Thanks for your continual updates...

There is an overwrite problem between kdelibs4 and libkdefakes4.

dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/kdelibs4_4%3a3.1.0-0woody2_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/libkdefakes.so.4.1.0', which is also in package
libkdefakes4

Unfortunatly there is no easy way out of this as trying to remove libkdefakes4
is not possible without removing kdelibs4 and the rest of KDE :-(

The only way out, short of uninstalling all of KDE and reinstalling is to
--force-overwrite:

dpkg -i --force-overwrite kdelibs4_4%3a3.1.0-0woody2_i386.deb

Which is not recommended for the faint hearted.

Perhaps kdelibs4 should include a Replaces: libkdefakes4 header.

RN's debs noatun mp3 problem

2003-01-21 Thread Regnat Nikolaus
Hi,

I'd like to thank Ralf for his great work on the KDE 3.1 debian packages. I've
encountered one small problem regarding noatun. The mp3 playback seems not to
work correctly (at least on my system - maybe someone can verify this).
noatun spills out the track with many errors. Playback of wav files works
though...

See if you have a line in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file that looks like
this:
Option DPMS
If so, comment it out, restart KDM, and try logging in again.

This happened to me a while back, when XFree86 4.1 was in unstable; I think it
is a bug affecting certain video drivers that was fixed in XFree86 4.2.

Your problem might be caused by something totally different, but this is
probably worth a try, as the symptoms are the same.

Seems familiar..

Easy answer:

Noatun is crap. Use xmms.

Hard answer:

Sorry I don't quite remember what the package is called but there is a special
mpeg player package for arts that you need. libarts-mpeg or something like
that.

Just note that the artswrapper application need to be SUID root, for
playback not to skip. If you have a very fast CPU it might work anyway.
I have an installation question for this, but I don't think that the official

possibly a potential security hole.

The package is called libarts1-mpeglib. I had already installed it (without it

problems with KDE CD-R(W) Watcher Monitors CD-R(W) Drives Media

2003-01-21 Thread TP Muller
Hi everyone,

this is just in case someone has the same problem I had. I am not sure if
something needs to be done about it or not, ie. if it's a bug or not.

I have a problem with the KDE start-up service
KDE CD-R(W) Watcher Monitors CD-R(W) Drives Media

I am using Ralf's latest .deb packages.

This service is running by default, and if it does, it causes the kernel to
print the following message into the syslog and the kernel ring buffer, at a
speed of around 100 lines per minute.

kernel: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

I have an scsi DVD drive and an scsi cd writer which never caused problems
before. I am not sure which of the discs the message refers to.

Whatever is causing these messages to be printed also seems to interfere
adversely with cd-burning: sometimes the CD can't be fixated and cdrecord
just loops (using X-CD Roast), something which I have never observed before
upgrading to KDE 3.1. I can kill cdrecord then, but the scsi cd writer just
disappeares from the scsi bus then and I have to restart my computer to get
it to be recognised again (also something which I never had to do before, and
I had it for more than 2 years now).

Stopping the service in Settings - Control Center - KDE Components -
Service Manager - Startup Services seems to get rid of the problem.

No. The following thing happened (unfortunately):

In an attempt to clean up ktown's master ftp directories, the Debian packages
came under fire by Dirk Müller :-/ and he removed the 3.0.4 and 3.0.5
directories for i386 in woody, replacing them with symlinks in the respective
directories pointing to 3.0.5a. I didn't know that until people started to
write me that they can't retrieve the qt packages for installing 3.0.5a.
After the second mail I had a look today and discovered the mess - I had made
symlinks to the qt and kde-i18n packages from 3.0.5a to the 3.0.5
directories. This means that those package sets got erased completely and
unfortunately enough, I didn't have a backup of the whole set.

What I did now was uploading a qt set that I had that has xft enabled; which
is the cause for your update of Qt. The feature that it adds is that you can
use antialiased text fonts (mind that you need XRENDER enabled in your xfree
driver, if 4.1 doesn't work you may want to upgrade to 4.2.1 anyway, there's
woody debs available). This was the easiest way to fix this issue. The
kde-i18n packages are just copied from the 3.0.4/sid/i386/kde-i18n package
set (not much difference anway).

I'm sorry that I didn't notify anyone earlier.

Ralf

New packages changes

Hi,

I've uploaded a new set of kde-i18n packages, new kdelibs package and some
other utilities this week like guarddog and kbear, today someone on IRC asked
me for rosegarden so I added that too (though it's build with arts support,
not alsa support - if you like it different for performance reasons, please
speak up :-)

There's three things that I changed in addition:

1. pinentry updated - pinentry-qt had a problem with setting the DISPLAY
variable, Steffen Hansen sent us a patch that I merged in. The .orig.tar.gz
from the sources is the same, the diff.gz contains the patch as a separate
diff file and has, after retrieving and applying the diff.gz with apt-get
source, the patch applied. Please test pinentry-qt if that works now for you.

2. I also added a ChangeLog lately that I try to keep up-to-date with what I
add, so you can look for yourself if you see something interesting.

3. The last addition is a file md5sum.txt in kde/woody which has the md5sums
of my i386 and source directories on my build machines. This may help to
verify if your packages are the same ones as they are on my machine to ensure
that you're on the safe side with the sources and the packages that you
retrieve, especially regarding security issues and the aegypten
crypto-packages.

NB: if you have any other Qt/KDE 3 package that isn't included in
i386/applications yet which you think is useful and would like to have a
package for, please notify me.

Thanks for listening,
