Re: Qt (= Qt 3.1.0) (library qt-mt) not found.

2003-06-25 Thread Lukasz Lesniak
Hi.

Solution:
Unistall gcc, g++, cpp etc.
Install all newest compiler =3.0 and required packages.
Configure qt with -no-xkb

So, now I compile KDE and waiting for result

Thanks, Andreas!

PS. Somebody know, why xfb making problems?

First solution:
try a export LDFLAGS=-lfreetype before the configure of
 KDE.
second solution:
recompile qt using the -no-xft option with the configure
 script. This
does not necessarily turn of AA-Fonts, they work here and I
don't have
xft-support in QT.

Actually I'm using the default layout so I guess I don't have any
special config in my KDE config files, but I think you should try to use
grep to parse the files in ~/.kde/share/config with keywords like
'mapping', 'layout' or 'key'. That should give you some results. If not,
you'll lose 15 mn to reconfigure your KDE environment, it's no big deal
if you keep the important files apart (like Kmail config for example).

fist of all thank you very much.
i found out that the layout configuration was in ~/.kde/share/config/kxkbrc.
though Layout was set to 'us' it did not work right. setting it to en_US did
work so i guess something (probably me by killing X with ctrl-alt-bs in
despair) messed up xlibs. i reinstalled xlibs and now Layout=us works as
before which is great. what a relief!

Why do you want to use xfs-tt ? Since XFree86 v4.x, it's really not
necessary. Plus, you got fontconfig and KDE, which deal well with any
type of font. Try setting font paths in your workstation's XF86Config
instead of using the server. I can send you my file if you like
(everything works, TT fonts, regular ones, Euro character, japanese
fonts, etc.). I can even tell you what font packages I've installed, but
I guess you already double-checked this.

at the office we want to switch our machines from evil M$-Win2k to sweet
Debian gnu/linux and kde and one of the problems we have with win2k are the
fonts. often we have to (re)install and/or adjust fonts and things really get
messy when we edit documents on different machines because no machine has the
same font set. so i though having a font server making one font set available
for all machines would be nice and troublefree.
meanwhile i guess it's easier to install those font packages on every machine.
(i think i gotta get rid of my perfectionism someday but until then) can you
(or anyone else) point me to a howto about truetype/antialiasing fonts with
xfree86? i really want to know how this works.

with kind regards, caspar kurt

I'm very confused. I don't see it here:
 http://download.kde.org/stable/3.1.2/Debian/pool/main/q/
(I think it must be in pool/main/q/qt-copy/ )

... but I have it installed:

kde.org/download to upgrade my kde. I don't understand why now is
 dissappeared.

Maybe I can help with an answer here.

The qt 3.1.2 powerpc packages were created prior to the release of KDE 3.1.2
and apparently did not make it to the new repository. They have been
re-uploaded and should be making their way to the mirrors shortly.

This is why people who upgrade from KDE 3.1 or 3.1.1 to get to 3.1.2
already have the appropriate qt libraries and people who are installing KDE
3.1.x for the first time are having trouble finding libqt3-mt, etc.

This evening (US-CDT), I will do some checking and see what other required
non-KDE packages are missing from the repository.

kscd fails as normal user, works through kdesu -c

2003-06-25 Thread Josh Metzler
I can play cd's using kscd as root (by doing kdesu -c kscd).

When I use the icon on the K-menu, kscd appears in the taskbar, then
disappears quickly. The window never appears. When I try running it from
konsole, I get the following errors:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ kscd

At this point nothing else happens - there is no kscd window, no CD activity,
and no sound. There is brief CD activity around the time of CDTEXT INFO: ...
Hitting Enter gets me a prompt back, but I must manually kill the kscd
process, even though it appears to be doing nothing.

I'm guessing it's a permissions problem, since it works kdesu root, but I
don't really know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Josh

KMail autocheck??

2003-06-25 Thread Antiphon
Is there any way to configure KMail to automatically check for new mail at its
startup?

Re: KMail autocheck??

2003-06-25 Thread David Bishop

If you are using 3.1 or below, add --check (I think) to the command-line when
starting KMail (right-click in the icon-properties if that's what you use).
From 3.2 on (current cvs) it's in the GUI.

Yes, there is. Take a look at the KMail handbook. You can find it in the Help
menu. Then take a look at the FAQ (6.10).

BTW, that's why the menu item is called Help ;-)
