after testing it I found that changing the transperancy settings in the
'effects' dialog box under 'style' in the control panel to 'xrender'
fixes the problem.

Hi,
the new option to make the panel transparent is really neat. Mucho eye
candy ;)
However, some applets seem to not know about panel transparency. For
me, it is the lockout applet, the desktop chooser and the task list.
