Well, the first problem is that as modified this doesn't accomplish the

Hello,
the bugs described above also occurred with linux-image-2.6.18-5-486
Version:2.6.18.dfsg.1-13
This means, that Debian/Stable still contains an unusable ext3
filesystem.
Are there any plans to bring a newer kernel (e.g. 2.6.21) into Etch?

The kernel for 4.0r1 is already complete, so there will be no fix
there. This fix will also not appear in 4.0r2

I have found an easy way to fix this problem on the following webpage :
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=85884sid=253f85fa345866026fbf582e1c54e2b3
Basically you just need to change every 'sda' to 'hda' in your /etc/fstab
file, and also in the entries for the new kernel in your
The patch below (against 2.6.8-16sarge7) seems to solve the problem.
I now run my machines with both this patch, and also the one I submitted
on 20 Jul. Please include in future versions of the kernel.
