because the -rt and non-rt APIs are different.
lttng-modules-dkms includes a mechanism to auto-detect the use of -rt

After several days of extensive testing of both the sound hardware

the igb/e1000e driver causes a soft lockup when doing stats updates. For
instance, when using the ledtrig-netdev kernel module to visualize network
activity via LEDs. The
I had a similar effect for kernel linux-image-4.8.0-0.bpo.2-amd64-unsigned
(even though a reset on the front panel was sufficient to reboot). Some say
this problem has been introduced by memory cgroups.
Does this ring a bell? Are you using dockers or LXCs with cgroup_enable=memory ?
