Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.93.4
Severity: wishlist

When building an initramfs for e.g. network booting I don't want to
modify the main /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf file on the
build system before executing update-initramfs but instead would
like to be able to use a separate config file and optionally
different /etc/initramfs-tools,
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions,
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions,
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf.d/*,... directories as well.

Related to this issue it's also tricky to get rid of some persistent
configuration files e.g. from /etc like udev configs (see #534170,
"do not install persistent files in initrd on request / if
necessary"). And also related to this report is #450623, "please
support copying modules from other places than /".

It would be great if initramfs-tools would provide more flexibility
in building an initramfs on a system being different from the one
where the kernel/initramfs should be used then.

regards,
