And on a low end box (where the cpu is also low end) or a VPS (where
cpu is pinned), I wonder what real performance benefits one really gets.
in my case i had a core2duo processor on my server with 2GB of RAM where
the RAM was the limited factor (Adding more RAM was not possible).

I don't know how true this is in practicality. The last time I explored
zswap (and zram), it was a cpu hog.
Yes, it does give you an extended Virtual Memory. But that is at the
cost of CPU cycles.
