perf fails to parse the build-id section of binaries. Upstream is
affected between

        403567217d3f ("perf symbols: Do not read symbols/data from device 
files")
          == v4.6-rc1~165^2~79^2~24

and 

        ed7b630b3107 ("perf symbols: Use proper dso name for is_regular_file")
          which is sitting in next currently (e.g.
          next-20160721~42^2~11^2~7)

which includes v4.6 and v4.7.
