Bug#954882: linux-image-5.4.0-4-amd64: [i915] Screen flickering when connecting external monitor to laptop
Package: src:linux Version: 5.4.19-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I have recently started to use an external monitor for this laptop and the issue has surfaced. I have upgraded the system to the latest release without fixing the issue. I'm unsure if previous versions of these packages avoided the issue or not. Some research pointed the error messages present in the dmesg output have already been related to a kernel bug in the past: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101868 [ 1812.607941] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun This laptop is a custom build. * What led up to the situation? Plugging in an external monitor via HDMI. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Rebooting with screen attached does not solve the problem. Booting without external screen solves the issue. * What was the outcome of this action? Intermittent flickering. When the screen is updated frequently (as when typing) the problem almost disappears. If the screen is almost idle, the flickering happens several times per second. * What outcome did you expect instead? No flickering on the screen -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 5.4.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 9.2.1 20200203 (Debian 9.2.1-28)) #1 SMP Debian 5.4.19-1 (2020-02-13) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-4-amd64 root=UUID=e4908201-67d3-4615-9d56-d1cef5accb71 ro pcie_aspm=off quiet ** Tainted: OE (12288) * externally-built ("out-of-tree") module was loaded * unsigned module was loaded ** Kernel log: [5.761317] EXT4-fs (nvme0n1p6): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Bug#941450: linux-image-4.19.0-6-amd64: e1000e driver periodically resets card
I'm expiring the same issue here. I use a dedicated network interface as bridge for VMs. When the interface became unreliable I disabled TCP offloading as shown below. This worked for a while but now the problem is even worse. I have to reboot the host to bring the network interface back. Restarting the network interface itself does not help. Bug#954778: Patch: Suppress irrelevant warning when generating a debian package
Creating a Debian package by compiling the kernel using make bindeb-pkg without creating debug information creates a warning that no debug package was created.
