Hi,
I request you to change .config settings as follows:
CONFIG_OBSOLETE_OSS_USB_DRIVER=y
CONFIG_USB_AUDIO=m
It's an obsolete device driver, but it's useful with some USB audio

It isn't RAID or SATA. I have this problem, and my boot hardware is
about as common and bare-bones as one could expect: IDE, one partition
(and one swap partition), average-ish x86 motherboard and processor

The only thing remotely non-standard here is the XFS root partiti
I attempted to use linux-image-2.6.14-2-k7, and I have the same problem
others reported.
Here's the symptoms:

initrd.img -- using yaird, which installed along with the new kernel. I
rebooted the system. I got the same mess

yaird fails as follow :
# yaird -o /tmp/a 2.6.14-2-s390x
yaird error: can't open /proc/bus/input/devices (fatal)
I therefore removed the "INPUT" goal f

seems to me that the problem is that the IDE drivers are still compiled
as modules. See
