Bug#480995: smbfs: Fails to mount.cifs etch samba server in 2.6.25

2008-05-24 Thread Jacopo Corbetta
Hello, same problem here.

I tried the Fedora patch from
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=443681 and it works. I can
mount shares exported from the Samba version in etch, the version in
lenny and Windows XP.

Bug#482651: linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64: Update from 2.6.24-6 to 2.6.24-7 failed to execute lilo causing boot loop

2008-05-24 Thread Adolf Winterer
Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.24-7
Severity: normal

Updating the system from 2.6.24-6 to 2.6.24-7 rendered the system unuseable.
After the reboot lilo started but was not able to load the kernel, the
system rebooted, entering an infinite boot loop. The update had been done
with synaptic.

Fix:
Booting from the install CD into the rescue mode, mounting the root partition
and the boot partition (root and boot live in different partitions here) and
issuing the command lilo allowed the system to boot normal again.

Afterwards I remembered that I had seen no lilo command in synaptics
terminal window.

Previous kernel updates within the 2.6.24 kernel series had not shown this
defect.

Hello,

I observe from time to time the following at cold or warm reboot on a
mac-mini (core 2 duo, cf. http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html).

I don't think the trouble is with the hardware (same box working fine
with OSX and Xubuntu-hardy in live mode)

can you reproduce with 2.6.25 from unstable?
installs just fine in testing please report back, thanks

Hello Maximilian,

This bug can be closed, I wasn't able to reproduce the crash since my
uppgrade to 2.6.25, a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks.

kernel update failure

2008-05-24 Thread C. Bronson H. Crothers
When software update tries to update my kernel I get:

linux-image-2.6.18-6-powerpc_2.6.18.dfsg.1-18etch4_powerpc.deb: failed
in buffer_write(fd) (10, ret=-1)

I have no idea why.

It has done this repeatedly, and keeps telling me to update the kernel.
It is most annoying.

No bug, read old bugs for the same problem before reporting a new one.

try out 2.6.25 from unstable just installs fin in testing.
 can you reproduce there?

I try linux-image 2.6.25-2 and found the same problem.
I check that DebianEeePC have a similar problem[1] and the responsible
is snd_hda_intel driver. But I don't have this sound driver loaded.

Do not add these rules without my approval.

Please, Marco, if you do not have the time to fix it by adding these

ei bug reports are not the right place for support question.

linux images are build modular due to several reasons,
if you haven't yet thought why a little reasearch will help you.

debian user is the mailing list for user support.

Bug#482773: linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64: bootprocess hangs after Begin: Waiting for the root filesystem... ...

2008-05-24 Thread Jesus Christus
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64
Version: 2.6.25-3
Severity: important

Hi,
the kernel in unstable doesn't boot for some reason. The last message it
prints is Begin: Waiting for root filesystem... I do think that
this has something to do with the initramfs. According to google the
initramfs is too large to be loaded, or something.

I've already tried to downgrade the initramfs-tools to the old
etch-version, but that didn't change a thing.
I've also tried to rebuild a smaller initramfs by changing
MODULES=most to MODULES=dep in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf
running update-initramfs -k 2.6.25-2-amd64 -u -v. But the bootprocess
still hung.

Please tell me, if you have any ideas what the problem is, or what I
could do, to get additional informations.
