Bug#485704: DVD burn very slow.

Using this 2.6.24 kernel burning a DVD with growisofs. is
very slow. I can't see any error messages. According to the
trace the amount of data being written is tiny. It's
unusable like this. A backup that normally takes 25m would
 take days to complete.

When I revert to kernel 2.6.22 (changing nothing else) the
 DVD writes at normal speed.

This was already reported as bug #463610 which has been
 archived.

please try out 2.6.25 linux images from sid,
they just install fine in testing.

Hi,

Could you examine applying the attached patch?

This patch resolves the problem which occurs when using DRBD8 on LVM.
This issue was discussed at the thread http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/25/142,
and the attached patch had already been installed to 2.6.25.

I have an ML-350-G5 with an E200i raid controller. There are 2 logical

RAID-1 array. When initializing an oracle database on the system, the
system panics.

can you still reproduce the error with an up to date kernel aka at

  I tried it with the 2.6.25 (linux-image-2.6.25-2-686_2.6.25-4_i386.deb)

and I can no longer reproduce the bug as I could with 2.6.21.
If you want some additional tests, let me know. I'll recycle the installed

I use fai to install the machine, so it's pretty easy to do a test install
as long as the kernel doesn't need packages outside to current etch set...

Bug#485786: initramfs-tools: support for ide-generic for Lenny

2008-06-11 Thread Frans Pop
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.92b
Severity: wishlist
Tags: d-i

Hi maks,

I've been thinking a bit more about how we could support ide-generic for
Lenny without loading it by default on systems that do not need it, but
also avoiding /etc/i-t/modules which results in it being loaded first,
thus potentially blocking other drivers.

My suggestion is to include your old Etch script again, but to only
actually run that if a (new) i-t config option is set.

In D-I we could then load ide-generic pretty much as was done for Etch,
and set that config option (in /etc/i-t/conf.d) _only if_ loading the
driver actually resulted in new block devices being created.

I'm not completely sure how etch-lenny upgrades for systems that need
ide-generic could best be handled. They would also need to be able to set
this config option somehow.

Some options would be:
- display a debconf note on upgrade if ide-generic is currently loaded and
ask whether it should remain loaded
- or better, if it is possible to see that ide-generic is actually in use,
automatically set the config option only in that case
- not do anything automatically, but support a boot parameter that will
load it so that users can then set the config option manually
- others?

The issue should probably at least be mentioned in the Release Notes.

What do you think?

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#485789: initramfs-tools: With crypted LVM, tries to start LVM before decryption

2008-06-11 Thread Didier Raboud
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.92b
Severity: normal

Hi,

I installed LennyBeta2 (under Qemu) with the graphical installer and
chose crypted LVM. The thing is that on boot, the initramfs firstly tries
to open (initiate ?) the LVM before it actually has access to it (because it
is encrypted).

It results in an error (attached) which could be avoided if the encrypted
partition is opened before the LVM is initiated.

Regards,

Didier

Bug#485789: initramfs-tools: With crypted LVM, tries to start LVM before decryption

2008-06-11 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Adding Max Vozeler and David Härdeman to the CC.

* Didier Raboud [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-06-11 15:06]:

 Regards,

 Didier

Bug#485873: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686: fails to suspend to ram (hangs when Suspending console(s))

2008-06-11 Thread Gabriel Kerneis
Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686
Version: 2.6.25-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

* steps to reproduce:
- start the computer (Thinkpad T42)
- login (console mode)
- sudo s2ram

* result:
the screen becomes black, then displays 3 lines, the last one being:

Suspending console(s)

It hangs at this point. I can switch to the consoles (Alt+F1...F6). I
can type things in the first console (I get a blinking cursor), nothing
in the others, and none of them reacts. Once I've switched to one of the
consoles, I can't go back to the Suspending console(s) screen.

My logs are empty. I have to hard-reboot the computer. It definitely
hangs *before* suspending (so this is not a problem of can't wakeup
but rather something like can't suspend).

FWIW, suspend-to-ram works fine with linux-image-2.6.18-4-686 on my
computer. Sadly, I can't figure out exactly when it stopped working.

I'm willing to investigate this issue further but I don't have any idea
of what I could try. Could you provide me some hints?

Regards,
  Gabriel

Bug#485873: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686: fails to suspend to ram (hangs when Suspending console(s))

2008-06-11 Thread maximilian attems

 Hi,

 * steps to reproduce:
 - start the computer (Thinkpad T42)
 - login (console mode)
 - sudo s2ram

 * result:
the screen becomes black, then displays 3 lines, the last one being:

 Regards,
   Gabriel

echo mem /sys/power/state #check

checkout latest trunk see wiki.d.o/DebianKernel 2.6.25-rc5

 Maximilian,

please try out 2.6.25 linux images from sid,
they just install fine in testing.

I tried 2.6.25 and it behaves identically.

 Regards,
 David Keegan.

you don't seem to have provided a dmesg of the *working*
and the nonworking kernel.

best regards
