Bug#494036: hwclock freezes Thinkpad T60 too

It seems to be related to some BIOS/rtc/HPET issue. With any kernel 2.6.24 everything was fine. Because there is nothing in the logs in time of freeze it is hard to give more information. After I use the Ingo Molnar's netconsole I got on a other computer the log message rtc: lost 787 interrupts before freezing. The workaround hpet=disable works mostly. In the ChangeLog-2.6.27-rc5 is a possible fix: commit 38c052f8cff1bd323ccfa968136a9556652ee420 Author: Ingo Molnar [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sat Aug 23 17:59:07 2008 +0200 rtc: fix deadlock if get_rtc_time() is _ever_ called with IRQs off, we deadlock badly in it, waiting for jiffies to increment. Hi, sorry for some delay, haven't dwelled into the problem recently. Even with the same directory structure, I cannot see the problem if the data is not there. And I cannot see the problem if I just copy the problematic (on that disk) entries/dirs. I also tried using a script to create directories with entries beginning with ä in fi-wiktionary, but they also look fine when connected to QNAP. It does not look like any corruption on the HDD I'm using either, since the same data backuped to another disc shows the same problem in the same directory/directories, although for different entries. Both disks can be accessed fine when mounted as ext3 to other machines. What is the output of 'locale'? fi_FI.UTF-8 on all lines (except the last LC_ALL which is empty). I started to install the Ati Catalyst and the MadWifi driverson the new kernel, when I found a problem that looked familiar for me (I suffered it on the old 2.6.24-x-486 kernel. I don't remember the number where x. This kernel was the default on the netinst for 32bits. The kernel on this occasion dissapeared by installing the 2.6.24-x-686 kernel). Ok, let's go with the problem (using 2.6.26-1-686 kernel): When I start the system, I have to press all time a key on my keyboard (for example Alt) for the system continues booting up. If I don't press any key the system looks frozen and the booting stops (when I'm running X occurs the same. I have to move the mouse or press all time a key for the system continues running normally) and continues booting when I press a key again. If I stop pressing a key when a proccess is running (or starting during the boot up), this proccess continues running until the end of the operation. At the moment the solutions are the following: 1) Boot up with acpi=off makes the system running normally. But with this I don't have wifi, battery status, sensors, etc. 2)Stay with the previous kernel. The version 2.6.25-2-686. This kernel works perfect for me. (I use this solution at the moment). My system is: Acer Aspire 5102WLMi (AMD Turion X2 @ 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR memory) running Debian Lenny up to date. Now I use 2.6.25-2-686 kernel instead the 2.6.26-1-686 kernel. Bug#497133: initramfs-tools: explodes when kernel is booted with root=mtd0
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.92f On OLPC machines, root is a nand device that is mounted as mtd0 (it is neither a block device nor a char device). The arguments passed to the kernel are ro root=mtd0 rootfstype=jffs2. Unfortunately, attempting to use an initrd based upon initramfs-tools on such a machine results in a kernel panic and a syntax error. Begin: Mounting root file system ... /init: line 172: syntax error: 0xmtd0 The probably appears to be in parse_numeric(); the init scripts assume that normal devices are always prefixed with /, and root= strings that aren't are raw device numbers (prefixing them with 0x).
