Bug#582481: [pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#582481: initramfs-tools: System won't boot anymore if it was encrypted by debian squeeze setup

2010-05-25 Thread Andre Pawlowski
Hi,

if it is a bug in udev, why does the system start with the old initramfs?

Greetings,

Andre Pawlowski

 I think it is a bug in initramfs-tools.

 no we dont set udev symlinks, so it is either a crytsetup
 or an udev bug.

 i strongly believe it's a udev bug. the same warnings appear on my
 system since last udev upgrade. the apear both at cryptdisks and lvm

 didn't have time to further investigate it though.

dude you have not provided the error message or presumed failure

how about telling that as a start.
can you still reproduce it with latest initramfs-tools?

thanks.

Bug#583071: initramfs-tools: initrd.img fails to boot with xen

2010-05-25 Thread Asias He
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.94.4
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am trying to boot xen with 2.6.32-5-xen-686 dom0 kernel using this grub2
entry.

menuentry xen Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-xen-686 --class debian
--class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
insmod ext2
set root='(hd0,3)'
multiboot   /boot/xen-3.4-i386.gz dom0_mem=512M
module  /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-xen-686
root=UUID=b3af1d44-5293-4d2f-a211-fcc23b88b7fc ro vga=0x317
module  /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-xen-686
}

The boot boot process ends here:
---
Loading, please wait ..
mount: cannot read /etc/fstab: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or direcotry
mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or direcotry
mount: mont /proc on /root/proc failed:No such file or direcotry
Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init.
No init found. Try passing init= bootarg.

BusyBox v1.15.3

But, If I use the following grub entry to boot the dom0 kernel without
xen.gz(same vmlinuz initrd) the system boot sucessfully.
menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-5-xen-686 --class debian
--class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
insmod ext2
set root='(hd1,3)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set b3af1d44-5293-4d2f-a211-fcc23b88b7fc
echoLoading Linux 2.6.32-5-xen-686 ...
linux   /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-xen-686
root=UUID=b3af1d44-5293-4d2f-a211-fcc23b88b7fc ro noresume quiet
echoLoading initial ramdisk ...
initrd  /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-xen-686
}

I noticed that there is a similar bug without xen involved.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=576677

I followed the suggestion to update the findutils(4.5.9-1) and (initramfs-tools
0.94.4).
But, the problem persists.

Bug#580740: unfixed

2010-05-25 Thread Barak A. Pearlmutter
Package: linux-image-2.6.34-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.34-1~experimental.1

 linux-2.6 (2.6.34-1~experimental.1) experimental; urgency=low
   * New upstream release
 - rtl8192su: Add IDs for several more devices (Closes: #580740)

This didn't actually fix bug 580740, because the module is not enabled.

This kernel I build myself has the module, and it works with the USB
dongle in question:

$ egrep CONFIG_RTL8192 /boot/config-2.6.34
CONFIG_RTL8192SU=m
CONFIG_RTL8192U=m
CONFIG_RTL8192E=m

whereas this packaged kernel does not have the it:

$ egrep CONFIG_RTL8192 /boot/config-2.6.34-1-amd64
# CONFIG_RTL8192U is not set
CONFIG_RTL8192E=m

Cheers,

This is a known issue due to the grub2 maintainers arbitrarily changing
the semantics of the modules lines compared with grub1.

Please see the section of http://wiki.xen.org/xenwiki/XenCommonProblems
titled Booting Xen with GRUB2 fails? for a workaround.

did you try to submit the correct passphrase at all? as already written,
these udevd-work messages are just warnings, they shouldn't have any

 The system is up to date with the newest squeeze packets.

so unlocking the disk works with old initramfs, while it fails with the
new initramfs (ignoring the udev warnings)? or does it work with the new
initramfs as well, despite cluttering the passphrase prompt with udev
warnings?

in the former case you most probably spotted another bug (or
misconfigured your system), in the latter case this bugreport should be
reassigned to package dmsetup, where the respective udev rules need to
be updated.

Hi Stephen,

thanks for your bug report. Stefan Weinhuber or Stefan Haberland should
look into this, since they both know the partition code and the DASD
driver.

Bug#582481: [pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#582481: initramfs-tools: System won't boot anymore if it was encrypted by debian squeeze setup

2010-05-25 Thread Andre Pawlowski
I've found it. It wasn't an error in the initramfs-tools.

The idea came to me when I logged on to a system via RDP. I use a german
keyboard and a us layout. The layout changed with the new
initramfs-tools and so the keys I entered where wrong. It's definitely
no bug.

I'm sorry for causing troubles. At the moment I worked with the new
initrd image.

Thanks

 these udevd-work messages are just warnings, they shouldn't have any

 The system is up to date with the newest squeeze packets.

 so unlocking the disk works with old initramfs, while it fails with the

Bug#583139: linux-2.6: no DHCP offers on r8169

Hi,

I get no DHCP offers on the r8169 device since the upgrade to 2.6.26-22lenny1.

Reverting to 2.6.26-22 does not fix the problem.

Reverting to 2.6.26-21lenny4 *does* fix the problem.

Please contact me for more info.

Alex,
 Thanks for the report. I don't see anything in -22 that looks like it
would've affected your setup, but in -22lenny1 there is a security fix
for the r8169 driver. Would you mind retesting -22 just to be sure?

Also, please supply the output of 'dmesg' on your system after the
dhcp fails on -22lenny1. It might be useful to see the output on
-21lenny4 as well for comparison.

Bug#583162: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: console font corruption with nouveau

2010-05-25 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-13
Severity: normal
Tags: patch fixed-upstream

When a non-default console font size is selected (e.g. by running
setfont Uni3-Terminus20x10), nouveau displays corrupted glyphs
rendering the terminal useless.

This has been fixed by commit c82b88d578847909797945824851a6a9a84f9c20:

drm/nouveau: Fix fbcon corruption with font width not divisible by 8

NV50 is nice and has a switch that autoaligns stuff for us. Pre-NV50,
we need to align input bitmap width manually.

Signed-off-by: Marcin Kościelnicki koria...@0x04.net
Signed-off-by: Francisco Jerez curroje...@riseup.net
Signed-off-by: Ben Skeggs bske...@redhat.com

This does not apply as is, attached is a patch that can be applied
against 2.6.33.4 (I haven't looked at the Debian kernel yet). I
verified that the fix for nv50_fbcon.c works, but I cannot test the one
for nv04_fbcon.c due to lack of hardware. Note that the same patch has
been applied in Ubuntu, see also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/544739.

Hi

same problem for version 2.6.32-13.

Could someone please set the forwared in BTS, as I wrote in my first bug

Sorry I I do not understand how to do this.

Maybe one should as well add

Thanks

  Hi,

  I get no DHCP offers on the r8169 device since the upgrade to
  2.6.26-22lenny1.

I suspect that this is bug #573007, which sometimes causes the MAC
address to be set incorrectly. It doesn't always trigger, and the
differing behaviour between kernel versions would just be a matter of
chance (or dependent on whether you use a cold or warm boot). There is
a pending patch for lenny which should fix it.

Ben.

I've installed qemu-kvm under Debian Squeeze and I'm unable to run any virtual
machine. Everytime I try to run an ISO file, this is what happens: http://m
