Bug#550534: firmware-iwlwifi: 550534, 626965: new upstream version fixes microcode restarts

 How is an upgrade to the 6000-family microcode going to fix a bug

Obviously it isn't, but it will fix the same symptoms on 6000-family
chips, so an update would be appreciated.

Bug#632678: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: el sistema se cuelga de forma aleatoria

2011-07-04 Thread Simón C . A .
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-35
Severity: important

referencia a puntero nulo:

So, the .device method of vt_console_driver was called with one of its

kernel/printk.c::console_device, which suggests that the latter was
called with its argument NULL...

Severity: wishlist

Dear firmware-nonfree maintainers,
at least since 2.6.39 the iwlagn driver like to load the v5 firmware
file for the Wireless-N 1000 based chips. Thus I'd greatly appreciate
it, if you could run the update.sh script in the iwlwifi directory with:
 ./update.sh 39.31.5.1
 http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/iwlwifi/downloads/iwlwifi-1000-ucode-39.31.5.1.tgz

I would have provided a debdiff, but it seems that doesn't include changes to
binary files.

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,
Kai Wasserbäch

I am also affected by this bug and it seems to occur if and only if I
try to hibernate with more than about 50% of my RAM in use. This is the
configured Preferred maximum image size for uswsusp on my system, but
changing it to a higher value does not prevent it.

Bug#630360: linux-2.6: sporadic kernel bug while trying to hibernate system

2011-07-04 Thread Jonathan Nieder

Hi Daniel,

Daniel Schoepe wrote:

So it's a regression from squeeze and 100% reproducible? From the
point of view of fixing it, that's excellent news.

Except for the list of affected versions, this looks like
[*] https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15816.  If you have
time, could you do the following?

 - first, test the latest kernel from experimental

 - find the first affected upstream release by running a bisection
   search through packages at snapshot.debian.org

 - try the debugging patch from Raphael Wysoki's upsteam [*]
   comment #7, using instructions from here:

http://kernel-handbook.alioth.debian.org/ch-common-tasks.html#s-common-building

   and Documentation/applying-patches.txt and let Raphael know
   the result and details about your case (e.g., by commenting on the
   upstream report).

 - try using git bisect to find out which upstream change
   introduced the bug, like so:

$ apt-get install git build-essential
$ git clone
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git
$ cd linux-2.6
$ make localmodconfig; # minimal configuration
$ make deb-pkg
$ cd ..; dpkg -i produced package; reboot
$ ... test test test ...

If it works at this point, declare victory and let us know.

$ git bisect start
$ git bisect bad; # tell git the good news
$ git checkout v2.6.32; # or whatever version you think will work
$ make silentoldconfig
$ make  fakeroot -u make deb-pkg
$ cd ..; dpkg -i produced package; reboot
$ ... test test test ...

Hopefully that one does not trigger the BUG.

$ git bisect good; # tell git the good news

Then it will automatically check out a revision half-way, so:

$ make silentoldconfig
$ make  fakeroot -u make deb-pkg
$ cd ..; dpkg -i produced package; reboot
$ ... test test test ...
$ git bisect bad; # if it triggers the BUG, or
$ git bisect good; # if working hard still does not trigger the BUG, or
$ git bisect skip; # if some other bug makes it hard to test

Rinse and repeat until it tells the first bad commit or you
get bored and let us know the outcome plus git bisect log
output.

If the gitk package is installed, you can use git bisect visualize
to see the regression range narrow at each step. See
http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-bisect-lk2009.html
for more details.

Thanks for reporting and hope that helps.

the Debian upload queue directory:
  linux-2.6_2.6.39-3.diff.gz
  linux-2.6_2.6.39-3.dsc
This looks like an upload, but a .changes file is missing, so the job
cannot be processed.

If no .changes file arrives within 23:25:00, the files will be deleted.

If you didn't upload those files, please just ignore this message.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.39-1
Severity: important

Since upgrading from 2.6.38-2 (Debian 2.6.38-5), I've found that, at
least on systems with integrated Intel graphics, loading the eeprom
module hangs indefinitely after reporting messages of the form

[drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin N [i915 gmbus foo]

This regression proved particularly troublesome on my desktop, whose
/etc/modules has historically listed eeprom (per sensors-detect?);
however, as you can see, I can reproduce it on my laptop as well. (A
couple of minor details vary; my desktop's chipset is a Q35 rather
than a GM45, and after giving up on pin 0 there, the kernel proceeds
to try pin 1, with the hang occurring after one mention thereof.)

Could you please investigate this problem?

Thanks!

Package: linux-source-2.6.39
Version: 2.6.39-2
Severity: minor

When using the configure target xconfig, the kernel searches for either a QT4
or QT3 development environment.
The Debian package only lists QT3 dev libraries as suggested (libqt3-mt-dev)

The package should suggest libqt4-dev OR libqt3-mt-dev
(with a preference, like the kernel, of QT4.)

This is just a nit since people compiling their own kernel should know enough
to get the appropriate libraries.
But it should make things easier for people who want to clean QT3 stuff off
their systems.

Thanks!

 Using the files currently available in incoming, rtlwifi/rtl8192sefw.bin
 does not appear to be included in the firmware-realtek binary package:

Oops.

 I discovered rtlwifi/rtl8192sefw.bin is not mentioned in
 firmware-nonfree's debian/rules.gen, which may explain its lack of
 inclusion. The Realtek RTL8192SE/RTL8191SE firmware file description
 is also not stated in debian/control.

Those files are generated from the 'defines' files. The definitions for
firmware-realtek are in realtek/defines. The problem is that I added a
*description* of the file there but I did not add its name to the list
at the top.

 Please ignore this message if you are already aware.

No, thank you.
