Hi,

The ideal solution would be to enable IPv6 autoconf and IPv6 privace

FWIW, NetworkManager 0.9.4's NEWS reads:
* IPv6 Privacy Extensions are now enabled by default for new connections

2012-04-14 Thread Ralf Jung
Hi,

somewhen during the last three weeks, this error went away on my system. I am
however not sure whether this is due to some configuration change, or whether
the bug was fixed.
Did anyone else experience this problem and saw it go away recently?

Kind regards,
Ralf

Ok, thanks. (Next time, it may be simpler to use the .deb.) Now I

In order to use the apcupsd package with a USB connected UPS, HIDDEV
must be included in the kernel, either built-in, or as a module. But
it is not in the default sparc kernel build at all.

Why was it removed from the kernel image?

I request that HIDDEV be reinserted as a module in the default sparc
kernel (both single-processor and smp builds), as these systems can
support usb (sometimes with an add-on PCI controller, as in my case),
unless there is a compelling reason to leave it out.

Thank you
John

This is fixed in Debian 5.0 'lenny' and later, though I'm not sure
exactly which version the change was made in.

Package: linux-image-2.6.18-6-mckinley
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-24etch3

hi,

i've encountered a problem with BIND9 running on oldstable. we're
running native IPv6 and serving DNSSEC-signed zones, so the problem
appears to be related to IPv6/UDP fragmentation.

when the problem manifests itself the named process stops serving DNS
requests and the process becomes unkillable.

i am fairly certain that this is the same bug:

http://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg21249.html

in particular, see:

http://www.mail-archive.com/netdev@vger.kernel.org/msg23619.html

the bug fix (132a55f3c5c0b1a364d32f65595ad8838c30a60e) was merged to
2.6.19 but never added to 2.6.18. it would probably be a good idea to
add this fix in an oldstable kernel update.

here is the BUG() dmesg output:

---BeginMessage---
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-6-486
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-22etch2
Severity: minor

I think this is minor, but it caught my attention and I thought the
package maintainer might want to know about it. Upgrading this
package from 2.6.18.dfsg.1-22 to 2.6.18.dfsg.1-22etch2 caused the
bogomips benchmark to drop from 99.07 to 20.03 on a Vortex86SX
based computer.

Downgrading this package back to 2.6.18.dfsg-1-22 (using
apt-get install linux-image-2.6.18-6-486=2.6.18.dfsg.1-22),
and changing nothing else, restored the bogomips rating back to 99.07.

I do not know if the computer actually ran slower. I didn't notice
a difference while using it, it was just the bogomips number that
caught my attention. If additional testing would be helpful, please
suggest something that would run on a minimal (command-line only) Etch
installation.

The computer is an Ebox 2300SX, which is a tiny x86 computer that
contains a Vortex86SX processor running at 300MHz. (More CPU info at
http://www.dmp.com.tw/tech/vortex86sx/)
I installed Debian Etch 4.0.r4 which came with version
2.6.18.dfsg.1-22 of the package linux-image-2.6.18-6-486. During
startup, the computer reported 99.07 BogoMIPS which was in line
with other reported ratings (i.e. 1/3 the processor clock).

After the installation, I added security.debian.org to
/etc/apt/sources.list and used apt-get to upgrade the installed
packages. According to the time stamps of the installed files
and the log files, it was the next reboot that showed the
reduced BogoMIPS.

Hi,

please set CONFIG_CIFS_UPCALL=y (this needs CONFIG_CIFS_EXPERIMENTAL=y too)
for the etchnhalf packages. It's needed to make mounting cifs volumes with
kerberos tickets work. (And it's set in sid+lenny.)

(Actually its only one part. a newer samba is also needed, but its way
easier/less work to maintain a samba backport than a different kernel :)

regards,
Holger

P.S.: cc:ing dannf as suggested by maks, not setting the severity to important
as also suggested, even though for me it is ;-)

Re: Bugs related to Linux package which are now orphan

2012-04-14 Thread Ben Hutchings
On Sat, 2012-04-14 at 00:04 +0100, Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo wrote:
 Hello,

 I have unpleasant news...

I noticed that there are these orphan bugs (no maintainer set, the
package that they are filed against is not present in Debian anymore).
They're about 121 (perhaps with some false positives), gathered from
[1], and attached (the list flattened to single lines in a text
file, easy to parse e.g. to extract bug numbers and reassign in bulk).

 [1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?maint=
^- (yes, with empy maint parameter)

Thanks for pointing this out.

What should be done with them, reassign? To which package, then?

Any bug that probably affects/affected more than one binary package
should be reassigned to the current source package (src:linux-2.6 or
src:linux-tools). I've reassigned and/or closed most of these.

Ben.
