xz compression support

2012-05-17 Thread Touko Korpela
Binary packages built from linux-2.6 source are now xz compressed (or was
that reverted)?
What about kernel images (vmlinuz) and initramfs images?
Is it enabled only for some architectures (arm)?

Another issue is source package. Shouldn't it be xz compressed (upstream
tarballs are available also in xz)?

P.s. Is xz-utils update coming soon, package has some bugs accumulated.

Thanks, 3.2.17 solved the hibernation problem indeed.
Any chance to get it into backports as well?

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.2.16-1
Severity: normal

Both on Wheezy and Squeeze (kernel from backports) hibernate (e.g. by
pressing the Fn-F12 button or by using the hibernate button in XFCE),
the screen gets dark and the computer does something, but it does not
switch off. After some minutes, I get impatient and switch it off, so
it does a normal reboot afterwards.

How can I debug the hibernation process? Are there any log messages to
look for?

Apparently this requires converting source package to new 3.0 format.
It seems to have good and not-so-good properties with it.
Seems solvable, debian-devel list has current topic about it.

Bug#673320: virtio-modules for sparc64

2012-05-17 Thread Artyom Tarasenko
Package: linux-2.6
Severity: wishlist

Since qemu-system-sparc64 can boot Linux only from a virtio device, it
would be nice to have the virtio-blk and virtio-net drivers on the
install media.
Other architectures (amd64, i686, loongson, ppc, ppc64, ...) have
these drivers, so it must be safe to include them.

Bug#673347: nfs-common: idmapd crashes due to race condition

2012-05-17 Thread Jonathan McDowell
Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.2.2-4squeeze3
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze patch

Hit this on a relatively busy NFSv4 client having had a much more lightly
loaded client talking to the same server for several months without
issues.

rpc.idmapd crashes causing a failure to lookup username/group
information for files; less than ideal when that's home directories.
Some investigation found:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=684308

pointing to a race condition between doing an fcntl F_SETSIG and
F_NOTIFY. I've applied the patch from that bug report and been running
successfully for over a month (having previously had rpc.idmapd die
every couple of days). debdiff of what I'm using attached.

Thanks. Does it work well against 3.2.y?
I'd still be interested in results from testing if you've tried it, of
  course.

So far, so good. Although I haven't tested it a lot yet.

And I did previously write a very similar patch myself, and it worked.
So I am confident in this one as well.

This was included in 3.2.17.

Are there any log messages to
look for?

Bug#671292: Confirmation

2012-05-17 Thread F. Rafael Leon
I have manually applied the patch to the 3.3.4 stable from
www.kernel.org on a powerpc G4 ibook and can confirm that it works.

Indeed, I am typing this on a K270 Unifying from Logitech along with
an M515 mouse. All good.

Thanks for the work.

   -Rafael
