Bug#886440: linux: Support to build linux-libc-dev for the upcoming riscv64 architecture

Severity: wishlist

Hello,

The 4.15 kernel comes with initial support for RISC-V.

Enabling support to build linux-libc-dev is one of the first steps to bootstrap
the architecture, so please consider enabling it.

If there's anything wrong or missing, please let me know.

I was missing debian/config/defines, attached now.

There is indeed
https://git.kernel.org/linus/ce4a4e565f5264909a18c733b864c3f74467f69e
backported as 3e5daacf65173987436bad6ab9039a05f9545cdd in v4.9.74
which AFAICS did remove the surrounding directives.

Version: 4.14.7-1
Severity: critical
Tags: patch upstream
Justification: breaks the whole system

Dear Maintainer,

This morning, I updated the Linux kernel from linux-image-4.13.0-1-amd64 to
linux-image-4.14.0-2-amd64.
Afterwards, my Intel Gigabit adapter (details below) did not work properly
anymore (no link).
When booting back into the previous kernel (4.13), everything works properly
again.

It seems like others experience the same behavior, see:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198047

According to that thread, this bug was introduced in v4.14.3 through commit
830466993daf09adbd179e4c74db07279a088f8c
("e1000e: Separate signaling for link check/link up", upstream:
19110cfbb34d4af0cdfe14cd243f3b09dc95b013).

The thread also includes a patch that (apparently) fixes the problem:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=261183=diff==1=raw

Could you please apply this patch to the Debian kernel, until it is included in
upstream?

Best regards,

Timo

Bug#839662: [firmware-atheros] ath10k_pci firmware crashes when ap changes bandwith

2018-01-05 Thread Michael Meier

Package: firmware-atheros
Version: 20170823-1~bpo9+1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

The same problem here with firmware-atheros version 20170823-1~bpo9+1
and kernel 4.14.0-2-amd64.

It's a dell xps 13 8th gen, with a:
3a:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless
Network Adapter (rev 32)

When that happens I need to deactivate and reactive the wlan, and it
works again...

Many thanks - this works great!

I just verified it by fetching raspi3-firmware (1.20171201-1) from sid:

Bug#886417: linux-source-4.9: Kernel sources do not compile

2018-01-05 Thread David Reviejo
Hi,

I have the same error with a very old machine, a Pentium-M one, (and so
no SMP...) trying to compile the source from 4.9.65-3+deb9u2 with a
custom config.

The problem is: the "load_new_mm_cr3" function in arch/x86/mm/tlb.c is
compiled only when SMP config is defined, but is used in code compiled
for no SMP machines (line 160); because of this the
"implicit-function-declaration" error.

Trying your sugestion, upstream 4.9.75 compile without problems: the
tlb.c there has no SMP special code (the header says something about:
"formerly SMP-only"...).

Cheers,

Hi,

this is a bit confusing. Are you trying to rebuild a kernel using the linux-
source-4.9 package with a custom config, or are you trying to rebuild the
src:linux package with no change at all?

If the former, could you provide the configuration you use? Can you also check
if upstream just-released 4.9.75 builds with that .config?

Regards,

I made a typo in the changelog and closed the wrong bug. Sorry for that. I am

Bug#830303: mmc0: Unexpected interrupt 0x04000000.

2018-01-05 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Control: found -1 4.14+88~bpo9+1

Same here, using a MacBookPro10,1. I cannot get the driver to work
when SDHC Samsung Evo 16GB is placed in card reader (bug is totally
reproducible). If I remove the card and place it in a USB reader
(USB-HUB reader) then everything is fine. I even tested using f3probe:

https://packages.qa.debian.org/f/f3.html

The card only work when placed in USB-HUB reader.

Re: Intel Vulnerability

Ok, so x86_64_BUG_CPU_INSECURE will be optional in kernel config.

As I read Meltdown is primary a security risk on server farms where
multiple customers use same CPU.

If I have my own private server on own hardware, and thereby have full
control over software in use, then I might get a performance boost by not
using x86_64_BUG_CPU_INSECURE and thereby use full standard speculative
execution.
