Bug#897930: linux-image-4.9.0-6-686-pae: Random hard lockups (no panic message) on Via C7 system
After weeks of troubleshooting, I have come to the conclusion that Debian kernels no longer work on the Via C7. Even newly available motherboards were released over 6 years ago.
Bug#902307: linux-image-4.9.0-3-amd64: systemd-udevd reports hung task during USB stick write
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.30-2+deb9u2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I began copying a Debian ISO to an old USB stick, which may well be corrupt. The system became very slow, and audio stuttered. Killing the 'cp' from another terminal window restored normal operation. I found the stacktrae shown below. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 4.9.0-3-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18) ) #1 SMP Debian 4.9.30-2+deb9u2 (2017-06-26) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.9.0-3-amd64 root=UUID=d75b29e8-fd83-4065-941a-7263be529f74 ro ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: [403637.750045] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0fce, idProduct=019e [403637.750052] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [403637.750055] usb 2-1: Product: C6903 [403637.750057] usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Sony [403637.750059] usb 2-1: SerialNumber: BH911V2N0D [437058.931478] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 10 [484203.264740] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 11 using ehci-pci [484203.412588] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0fce, idProduct=019e [484203.412595] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [484203.412598] usb 2-1: Product: C6903 [484203.412600] usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Sony [484203.412602] usb 2-1: SerialNumber: BH911V2N0D [523290.081545] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 11 [539214.014580] usb 2-1: new high-speed USB device number 12 using ehci-pci [539214.164497] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=04fc, idProduct=0c25 [539214.164504] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=1 [539214.164507] usb 2-1: Product: USB to Serial-ATA bridge [539214.164509] usb 2-1: Manufacturer: Sunplus Technology Inc. ALSA can still see and use the card without problems, but pulse see no cards. Dear Debian Kernel Team, on my Sophos UTM 425 I've experienced a network crash, machine was still working and could be rebooted from the console. Due to the lack of more info and the fact that it happened only once I will not open a bug report unless you instruct me to do so. In the hope it could be somehow useful. Best regards, Tito System Events =-=-=-=-=-=-= Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334182] [ cut here ] Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334192] WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 0 at /build/linux-6WgLIg/linux-4.9.88/net/sched/sch_generic.c:316 dev_watchdog+0x233/0x240 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334193] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (igb): transmit queue 2 timed out Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334193] Modules linked in: xt_REDIRECT nf_nat_redirect xt_nat tun xt_geoip(O) xt_NFQUEUE nf_log_ipv4 nf_log_common xt_tcpudp ip6table_mangle ipt_MASQUERADE nf_nat_masquerade_ipv4 nf_nat_ftp iptable_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 nf_nat_ipv4 nf_nat xt_TCPMSS xt_LOG ipt_REJECT nf_reject_ipv4 iptable_mangle xt_multiport xt_state xt_limit xt_conntrack nf_conntrack_ftp nf_conntrack ip6table_filter ip6_tables iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables bridge stp llc sch_fq_codel nfnetlink_queue nfnetlink nct6775 hwmon_vid intel_rapl x86_pkg_temp_thermal intel_powerclamp coretemp kvm_intel kvm arc4 rt2800usb rt2x00usb rt2800lib rt2x00lib irqbypass crct10dif_pclmul mac80211 iTCO_wdt crc32_pclmul ghash_clmulni_intel ppdev iTCO_vendor_support cfg80211 intel_cstate intel_uncore crc_ccitt rfkill intel_rapl_perf Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334223] joydev evdev i915 video drm_kms_helper drm sg pcspkr serio_raw parport_pc lpc_ich shpchp parport mfd_core button ext4 crc16 jbd2 fscrypto ecb mbcache raid10 raid456 async_raid6_recov async_memcpy async_pq async_xor async_tx xor raid6_pq libcrc32c crc32c_generic raid0 multipath linear hid_generic usbhid hid raid1 md_mod sd_mod crc32c_intel ahci libahci aesni_intel libata aes_x86_64 glue_helper lrw gf128mul ablk_helper cryptd i2c_i801 scsi_mod i2c_smbus psmouse ehci_pci ehci_hcd usbcore igb usb_common i2c_algo_bit dca ptp pps_core Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334252] CPU: 0 PID: 0 Comm: swapper/0 Tainted: G O4.9.0-6-amd64 #1 Debian 4.9.88-1+deb9u1 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334253] Hardware name: Sophos UTM/To be filled by O.E.M., BIOS 4.6.4 11/08/2011 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334254] 96b2f774 9231c0203e20 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334256] 96878a5e 0002 9231c0203e78 9231a8e7c000 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334258] 9231ada84940 0008 96878adf Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334260] Call Trace: Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334261] Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334264] [] ? dump_stack+0x5c/0x78 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334267] [] ? __warn+0xbe/0xe0 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334269] [] ? warn_slowpath_fmt+0x5f/0x80 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334271] [] ? dev_watchdog+0x233/0x240 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334273] [] ? dev_deactivate_queue.constprop.26+0x60/0x60 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334275] [] ? call_timer_fn+0x32/0x120 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334277] [] ? run_timer_softirq+0x1d7/0x420 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334279] [] ? tick_sched_do_timer+0x30/0x30 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334281] [] ? tick_sched_handle.isra.12+0x20/0x50 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334282] [] ? tick_sched_timer+0x38/0x70 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334284] [] ? __do_softirq+0x10a/0x29e Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334286] [] ? irq_exit+0xae/0xb0 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334287] [] ? smp_apic_timer_interrupt+0x44/0x50 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334289] [] ? apic_timer_interrupt+0x96/0xa0 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334289] Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334291] [] ? cpuidle_enter_state+0x9f/0x2d0 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334293] [] ? cpu_startup_entry+0x154/0x240 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334295] [] ? start_kernel+0x447/0x467 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334296] [] ? early_idt_handler_array+0x120/0x120 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334298] [] ? x86_64_start_kernel+0x14c/0x170 Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334298] ---[ end trace b3d101e108856a5b ]--- Jun 23 23:59:37 cerberus kernel: [1383075.334375] igb :01:00.0 eth0: Reset adapter Jun 23 23:59:39 cerberus kernel: [1383077.222473] igb :01:00.0 eth0: igb: eth0 NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX Jun 24 00:00:22 cerberus ifplugd(eth0)[2279]: Link beat lost.
