Bug#915178: i915: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000008
I think this might be the same as 914495. On Sat, 2018-12-01 at 17:33 -0800, Bill Brelsford wrote: > I get the same behavior (except at 0004) with > linux-image-4.18.0-3-686-pae. 4.18.0-2 was ok. Bug#915231: src:linux: Enable PCI_HOTPLUG for arm64
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.130-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: stretch Amazon recently announced arm64-based EC2 instances. These instances rely on PCI_HOTPLUG functionality to support attach/detach of resources such as ethernet interfaces and block devices. PCI_HOTPLUG is enabled for arm64 in buster and sid, but not stretch. Please enable PCI_HOTPLUG for arm64 in order to support EC2 on arm64. Thanks noah
Bug#915229: src:linux: Updated driver needed for Amazon ENA ethernet
Package: src:linux Severity: important ENA is an ethernet adaptor used on Amazon EC2 cloud instances. Version 2.0.2 of the ENA driver was added to the mainline kernel as of version 4.20. This version includes fixes for various bugs, some of which result in kernel panics, and is needed in order to enable access to features available on newer hardware. It is also needed in order to support the recently announced arm64-based instances. I have opened https://salsa.debian.org/kernel-team/linux/merge_requests/77 to backport ENA 2.0.2 to 4.19 for buster. I have a WIP branch for stretch's 4.9 kernel at https://salsa.debian.org/noahm/linux/tree/stretch+ena2 This requires a bit more effort as 4.9 contains a much older version of the driver. Thanks noah

Here is the dmesg without wlan0: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1O-aYZreN_7ziHiVsxMc-zNoMAwKLB-UV And here is one with wlan0: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rD2BcEbxjxrpyrXqRglkyS3t1VkCXJ6l > Could you please change your config to: > CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI_IPROC=y This change does indeed make wlan0 appear! Unfortunately this is probably not a viable solution for the (generic) arm64 Debian kernel. Many thanks already for your great support! Best regards Matthias

Bug#915210: linux-image-4.9.0-8-amd64: kernel oops when plugging in pvr-usb2
Package: src:linux Version: 4.9.130-2 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, Whenever I plug in my Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB2, I get a kernel oops. I've looked online, and apparently others have this problem as well. It looks like a fix for a different problem was backported from 4.11, but was missing two additional patches. Have a look here: https://pvrusb2.isely.narkive.com/Aonnv0UP/kernel-oops-with-pvrusb2-and-wintv-hvr-1950 Which refers to a kernel bug report here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198675 Can you please apply the fixes mentioned in the above reports? I'm happy to test any updated packages, but I haven't done any coding in nearly 20 years so applying patches to kernel source is probably well beyond me. The kernel bug was reported for the ARM version, perhaps it needs to be applied to the amd64 tree as well? Speed is less than 5 % of what is used to be and for that reason the browser frequently shows "No internet connection" instead of a webpage. Checking with another system at the same time shows that the internet connection as such is working fine. Booting the system with the old kernel 4.17.0-3 the problem does not arise, so the problem most probably is caused by 4.18.0-1 (or a package used by 4.18.0-1 but not by 4.17.0-3) and not by jointly used packages or hardware. Log files are identical as far as I can see and my system is up to date (tracking testing, just missing the most recent updates of irrelevant packages like libreoffice and vlc). Connection to the internet is by LAN to a Huawei LTE router. Due to bug #908578 I could not use reportbug to file this bug. Sorry if this means that some information is missing. Best regards G. Bug#915178: i915: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000008
Package: src:linux Version: 4.18.20-2 Severity: serious Justification: Renders machine unusable Hi! This is a regression with respect to linux-image-4.18.0-2-amd64, which I'm using now. With linux-image-4.18.0-3-amd64 the i915 driver tries to dereference a NULL pointer, leaving the video in the machine unusable (I can only access the machine trough network). I'm attaching dmesg's putput in that case.
