[PATCH] bpftool: Fix version string in recursive builds
When bpftool is built as part of a Debian package build, which itself uses make, "bpftool version" shows: bpftool vmake[4]: Entering directory /build/linux-5.8/tools/bpf/bpftool 5.8.8.0 make[4]: Leaving directory /build/linux-5.8 Although we pass the "--no-print-directory" option, this is overridden by the environment variable "MAKEFLAGS=w". Clear MAKEFLAGS for the "make kernelversion" command. I have no explanation for the doubled ".8" in the version string, but this seems to fix that as well. Bug#968359: linux-image-5.7.0-2-amd64: '/dev/fd' is not created automatically
Package: src:linux Version: 5.7.10-1 Severity: important The symbolic link '/dev/fd' (which is essential for packages like 'dkms') is no longer created at system startup. I'm currently using a small workaround for this problem by manually creating this symbolic link with ln -s /proc/self/fd /dev/fd in an init script (i'm using the sysv init, not systemd). But this should not be the intended solution, as '/dev/fd' should be created during the kernel startup, together with (most of) the other devices. I marked this bug as 'important', because it cost me half a day to find it, after an upgrade of 'virtualbox-dkms' failed. Normal people propbaly may not have been able to identify it. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 5.7.0-2-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 9.3.0 (Debian 9.3.0-16), GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.35) #1 SMP Debian 5.7.10-1 (2020-07-26) ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.7.0-2-amd64 root=UUID=aee09a8d-1e43-4fb1-828f-796b3a69769d ro iomem=relaxed vsyscall=emulate quiet showopts elevator=deadline ** Tainted: OE (12288) * externally-built ("out-of-tree") module was loaded * unsigned module was loaded ** Kernel log: [8.545857] Installing knfsd (copyright (C) 1996 o...@monad.swb.de). Bug#966703: linux-image-4.19.0-10-amd64: kworker process with permanent high CPU load
Hi Salavatore, I have kernel "linux-image-4.19.0-10-amd64/stable,now 4.19.132-1 amd64" installed, so it should already include the mentioned commit, if I understand correctly (I'm a bit confused by the two different version numbers used by Debian). I have also tried the most recent kernel "linux-image-5.6.0-0.bpo.2-amd64/buster-backports 5.6.14-2~bpo10+1 amd64". For both kernels, I see the two kworker processes with high CPU load. Regards, Dirk. The mentioned commit, is included in the following upstream versions (relevant for Debian): v4.19.119 (so in buster), v5.6.8 (and so the buster-backports kernel), v5.7-rc3. Regards, Salvatore
