Your non-working log shows that the VGA output is not detected by the driver, whereas the working log shows the VGA output as connected. Can you check that the cable is connected properly on both ends? Is the monitor directly connected to the machine (not through a KVM or similar device)? I have included below output from lspci, lshw, as well as the contents of /var/log/Xorg.log please send the Xorg log from the working case. This doesn't sound like a kernel problem...
