Hi Andries,

Bergen A van wrote:

In Squeeze all non-free firmware is removed out of the kernel.
So I decided to run Squeeze whithout non-free firmware.
Then the bug occurs randomly at startup.
I have long struggled with the problem and tried everything.

At one point I decided to solve:

  [ 19.381024] r600_cp: Failed to load firmware radeon/RV620_pfp.bin

 by installing the firmware-linux-nonfree package.

This has solved the problem! Do not know why.
So it seems that Squeeze cannot be run on HP Pavilion dv2 whitout non-free
 firmware.

I see. This sounds like http://bugs.debian.org/610851 (oopses
reminiscent of memory corruption after modesetting without radeon
microcode installed). Maybe the ACPI errors were a red herring.

Please attach dmesg output from a boot with the non-free firmware
installed, for comparison with the log already sent.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Thanks! Forwarding to the bug log.

It looks like the ACPI errors were unrelated indeed (since they're
still around). Please feel free to file a separate bug for them if
you have time to answer questions to solve that.

The ACPI tables seem to be broken. Questions:

 - did this problem arise with an upgrade, or has it always worked
this way? If the former, what version of the kernel worked?
 - how did you install / recover logs?
 - is your BIOS up to date?
 - if there's a configuration that allows a stable boot, could you
   attach output of

/usr/share/bug/linux-image-$(uname -r)/script 31

(which gives an overview of hardware and drivers used) and

acpidump

(which gives a dump of ACPI tables as Linux sees them)?
 - does a more recent kernel behave the same way? (For example,
one can check if it's possible to boot with a wheezy installation
   CD.)

Sorry for the long delay, and hope that helps,
Jonathan
