Ping.  I assume this is reproducible.  Is this a new installation, is
it a longstanding bug, or did the bug appear on upgrade?  Could you
attach dmesg output after triggering it?

client via samba or ftp the linux system freezes in a way that you can't ping 
it from any client on the the network. The connection to the server is 
interrupted. Pinging from the server isn't possible as well. Nevertheless the 
server seems to be working fine, except that the network connction is 
interrupted in both directions (server - client, client - server). When running 
the system with kernel 2.6.38-bpo.2-amd64 the problem no longer occurs.
