I upgraded one of my desktop systems two days ago and noticed immediately that it was freezing up every day at the same time. Total system lock. The trigger seems to be a cron job that collects and saves info about the system using tools like 'lshw' 'dmidecode' 'hwinfo' 'apt-show-versions', etc-etc-etc. Previous kernel was 4.12.0-1-amd64 and that was very stable -- uptime was about 110 days when I rebooted it for this upgrade. Hardware is a Gigabyte GA-H170N-WIFI with a skylake i5-6500. I have four other older systems but only this one has shown any problem thus far. Interesting system features include: running bcache, lots of KVM VMs run locally, heavy desktop-type usage. I ran my sysinfo collector script manually a few times after a fresh boot.
