FWIW, the "Lisa" mails to debian-l10-devel finally stopped. So, we may
expect that the description translations sync is *finally* working
again. Thanks to everybody who digged into the dust and finally fixed
the problem.

Special thanks to Thomas and Martijn who, from what I've seen, did
most of the needed work.

Given that info I've changed my dak clone to
https://ftp-master.debian.org/git/dak.git as the github-link from
yesterday did not contains these changes. The facts from the mail
still holds though, no real changes in those parts since 2009.

And for the parts kleptog points out wrt paths and so on I think that
sounds sensible and worth checking with People In The Know =)

On #debian-ftp, ansgar suggested a change in rsync options:

Maybe that would explain the rsync error in the logs.

The timestamp it should be referring to is the one here:

https://ftp-master.debian.org/i18n/

That's the file that the DDTP downloads and uses to generate the files to
upload. Why the script is not seeing it indicates some changed paths
somewhere along the way? Probably means it's also checking the wrong place
for other file too.

This proposal about changing the messages still holds some merit btw =)

Reading the dinstall.functions file that message seem to stem from
i18n1() where the following line is found.

https://github.com/lamby/dak/blob/master/config/debian/dinstall.function
s#L65

cd ${scriptdir}/i18nsync

Inside that directory it expects a file called timestamp and that file
hwas a value that will be used as TSTAMP variable. For some reason
that value is set to something in the past (last successful execution?).
At line 75 the check for the directory of that timestamp fails and the
above message is shown (see line 91) and the familiar "arf arf" mails
to debian-l10n-devel@l.d.o is sent (line 92).

The server with the file is probably fasolo then? I am not allowed to
SSH to it at least =)

So although dak can now access the ddtp machine, it may be looking for a

Well, the problem is that the whole process is so complicated and obscure
that when it doesn't work it takes ages to work out why.

The ddtp server is generating all the necessary files just fine, you can
find them here: http://ddtp2.debian.net/debian/

In another thread someone commented:

> On #debian-ftp, it has been suggested that the DDTP server may be
> missing the public key of the user ddtp-dak, or maybe the user itself.

IIRC the DDTP downloads via HTTP some signed files, generates the
translations, and signs the results. Dak should then download the files
from the DDTP via SSH. It does this using the following in the
authorized_keys file:

command="/usr/bin/rsync --server --sender -logDtpr .
/srv/ddtp-dinstall/to-dak/.",from="ries.debian.org,128.148.34.103,
franck.debian.org,128.148.34.3",no-agent-forwarding,no-port-forwarding,no-pty,no-X11-forwarding
ssh-rsa
B3NzaC1yc2EBIwAAAQEA5OLKpG43Iz1PmGgCgSL9VgnqV7p1Q3B/2rkzTLU3n57WqRwilPDr3oaGQQeBxS9NOSvGHO8KKPOcrTbAFAz5GUhdofjp2Eg0e+z5di+7QCGu/xesHn+NJuv8M2pq4h2VTpxS9KQttipNzZ2578y2wXo1zy3P7vnxiHu+a1JGs+XadurLcumy5746wuMEWuLwjCeY8AS+FgXuQbLoRJshOTC4NRWRfxV1CVWizoSts1WrKHTFmo5/W2Ao2NUXVpHKU2bmxUA1ooNDtu8mVgbZrYvrYrCcxeMqJVP+vVuU4tz6OGrgwwI+035QGiT34qAdAoKNQj4fpqtG17XFrzewww==
ddtp-dak@churro

Now that I look in the logs I see these messages:

Nov 27 19:52:15 ddtp sshd[20762]: Authentication tried for ddtp-dak with
correct key but not from a permitted host (host=138.16.160.17,
ip=138.16.160.17).

Maybe they changed IP? This appears to be a machine
http://fasolo.debian.org/ which is apparently the new alias for
ftp-master.debian.org?

What I've done now is changed the file to accept from that IP, see if that
helps.

Well, the issue is not really about interest nor skills as we are
probably many people motivated in solving this.
The real problem is about access: currently the ddtp/ddtss service is
hosted on a machine that is accessible by very few people (I would say
kleptog and bubulle) and these people are not as available as they used
to be… :/

So, unfortunately, all we can do is wait for someone with access to fix
the issue and/or grant access to someone who can do it.

Being a DDTSS translator myself, I know how frustrating it feels, but
let's not become demotivated. There is still time for the translations
to make it into Stretch. :)

Cheers,
Thomas
