Dircha, that fixed the problem. I can now see all the lines on my console.

Thanks a lot. I am going to continue with my quest: install woody on my
laptop.

Thanks again.

Also, you could try passing "video=vga16:off" on the installer boot
prompt. This was needed to install woody on my Dell laptop.

Although I suppose this problem is preventing you from seeing this line?

Yes, that's correct if you're using the floppies. It needs to get the
different components of the installation system.

If you download the 100MB netinst CD image, you don't need the internet during
installation. Although you would need the network to get any additional
packages after the installation.

There also are jigdo CD images available of the new installer, but these
haven't been completely tested yet.

Yes it has, and also the hardware support has improved a lot.
I had hoped the new installer wouldn't have your display problem. Would you
consider sending an installation report on this [1]?

Maybe the new installer isn't worth the trouble for you. I saw another
suggestion on the list how to fix your problem with the Woody installation.

Good luck on getting Debian installed...

Thanks Frans,

Do I have to download the CD image as well?

It looks to me that it's trying to download the different components off the

I see that this installation process has changed quite a bit. I still have
the problem seeing fewer lines on my console. :'-(

If you're installing Woody, you may want to try the new Debian Installer and

install Sarge instead.

Debian Installer is available from [1]. Try the link to the Ports Status
Page.
I'd advice the daily builds as they are very close to the release of the
first
Release Candidate.

I recently had a very successful install on a Satellite A40, but I'm
guessing
your machine is an older model.

Good luck.

Console does not display all the lines

2004-05-31 Thread Marvin Aguero

Hi guys,

I am trying to install debian on
my laptop (Toshiba Satellite). I can boot of the CD but the console does not
display all the lines.

The console has about 26 visible lines, but the last two or
three at the bottom of the screen are not visible.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas.

Since those lines are not visible, it’s pretty hard to
configure it. I don’t get the menu while running cfdisk,
etc.

The console display also shows in a very small area, in
other words, it doesn’t use the whole display area on the monitor.

Again, I would appreciate any idea that
help go through this installation.

Thanks again.
