If you download the 100MB netinst CD image, you don't need the internet during installation. Although you would need the network to get any additional packages after the installation. Would you consider sending an installation report on this [1]? Maybe the new installer isn't worth the trouble for you. Thanks Frans, I have downloaded the boot.img and root.img floppy images. Do I have to download the CD image as well? It looks to me that it's trying to download the different components off the network, not from the CD. At this moment I don't have a permanent internet connection. :-( I see that this installation process has changed quite a bit. If you're installing Woody, you may want to try the new Debian Installer and install Sarge instead. Debian Installer is available from [1]. Try the link to the Ports Status Page. I'd advice the daily builds as they are very close to the release of the first Release Candidate. I recently had a very successful install on a Satellite A40, but I'm guessing your machine is an older model. Good luck. I am trying to install debian on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite). I can boot of the CD but the console does not display all the lines. The console has about 26 visible lines, but the last two or three at the bottom of the screen are not visible. Also, you could try passing "video=vga16:off" on the installer boot prompt. This was needed to install woody on my Dell laptop. Although I suppose this problem is preventing you from seeing this line? dircha
