mmm...I found it. I read it on the italian magazine Linux & C. (April 2003) in
an article sporting the new kde 3.1; it was talking about kpovmodeler
saying:"it uses 3d opengl performance so beware of freezing your machine if
you have a graphic video chipset which does not have a valid and stable 3d
support (i.e.ATI)": aargh! I have an ATI...
Since kpovmodeler is neither a game nor a CAD I suppose I can get away with
it...If not, please tell me and I will apt-get --purge remove it;-)

On this machine no Windows system survives and LINUX POWER reigns UNLIMITED.

HI Mauro,

I don't know where you heard about povray needing 3d acceleration. This
is not true. But perhaps you think about the kpovmodeler?
Anyway, it should not need too much performance for hardware
acceleration, because it only needs opengl for realtime preview.

Anyway, MACH64-chips SUPPORT 3d-acceleration, as I wrote in the message
below, but only to a minor extent and with a not-officially-released
patch. Anyway, you only need major 3d-acceleration for CAD or games,
raytracers like povray shoud do it though.

Greetings,

jochen
