Good luck; this can be very difficult -- and isn't that usable most of the time. :) > The question is: > what must we install to use a TV as ad hoc external monitor ? Well, you need a video card that supports TV-out under Linux, and a way to enable that. For an ATI chip this means that you need the TV connected at boot time, and to find the 'atitvout' program (google should do it) which calls the VESA BIOS to enable it. If, and it's only if, that works, you should get 800x600 TV-out tolerably working. For other adapters, it depends on the card in question. A Matrox should just work(tm), but I don't expect your laptop has one of those. :) I don't know about any other video chipset but, in general, this is not a well supported area. :/ [...] > PS: Note that I can use a classical external monitor at ofice > (but not a home). Yes, you need to use the dongle that came with the laptop. It has the odd-looking connector on one side, and 3 standard connectors on the other. (S-Video, RCA, and... something else... not sure what. :) On my I8K I have an ATI video card so I've been using a program called atitvout. Since you're running the GeForce 2 you'll have to find something that will work with your board. Good luck. -Alex signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I've got a S§Savage/MX-MV (at least that's what lspci -v says) in my ASUS laptop and installed s3switch. I get the TV-options listed in the manpage and when I start s3switch. The Debian-Package-Version of s3switch I installed is 0.0.20010719-4, so perhaps you have an older one. Another reason could be that the TV-out-port on the card is not actually connected, but I'd say this would be a job for your dealer to fix.
