quick-lounge-applet, must I contact debian-release?

2008-09-19 Thread Diego Fernández Durán
Hi,

 I'm very new in this and the maintainer of quick-lounge-applet.

 quick-lounge-applet is in freeze, the version in testing is 2.12.1 and in
unstable 2.12.5. The new version doesn't fix any major bug.

 Must I contact debian-relase to request the package update?

 Thanks!

No, and if you did your request would probably be denied (freeze
exceptions are for bug fixes, not general updates). Lenny will have
2.12.1, the new version will have to wait until Lenny+1.

They are unlikely to approve anything without an important or RC
bugfix, check the last release update for details:

Your build system will run autogen and configure multiple times.
Please make build depend on the appropiate patch-stamp file instead of
patch directly and do not make it phony (usual way it to make it a
build-stamp target, create build-stamp file at the end and make build
simply depend on build-stamp).

I've currently no sid system with enough build-depends available to
test, but your clean target really looks like not cleaning enough.
Please try to run dpkg-buildpackage -S after a dpkg-buildpackage and
look at the .diff.gz, I'd be suprised if there weren't a myriad of
additional files in there (at least I see nothing removing Makefile
or Makefile.in and stuff like that).

Your debian/copyright states it is LGPLv3 but does not point to the
copy of the license in /usr/share/common-licenses/LGPL-3.

You do not list the copyright holders of intl/ (17692 lines in .c files
is not little), ide/font_outline/ArevCopyright.txt lists a copyright
holder not found in there, and perhaps other files, too...

Also having the package under LGPL 3 and the debianisation under GPL 2
looks strange to problematic to me...

I've only looked at debian/rules and debian/copyright, other files might
have other problems...

Hi,

Krzysztof Burghardt wrote:

here it comes to my comments about your package. Please note that this
might not be a complete list of possible issues or wishes about your
package. As sponsoring is an iterative process I will continue to tell
you things, once you've changed those which are mentioned below.

- debian/copyright:
1) The copyright of Frerich Raabe does not contain every copyright year.
I found at least one different year, which should be listed aswell.
2) The string '(C)' has no legal meaning in some parts of this world.
You should replace it with the © character.
3) The reference to the file in /u/s/common-licenses is wrong, because
the license in elfrc is *not* a 3-clause BSD license, while the on in
/u/s/common-licences is. The license block should therefore include the
full license.

Apart from this:
Its not exactly clear weither the package is your work, or the work of
Kumar Appaiah or the work of you both. Probably you want to remove the
mark of Kumar Appaiah in the changelog, add your copyright to
debian/copyright and note therein that your work is based on the work of
Kumar Appaiah (if that is the case).

- debian/rules:
You could use install -D in your rules file, to also create the
directory you are installing to. This way you could get rid of
debian/dirs and the dh_installdirs call in it. But thats not
neccessarily needed.
Apart from this the call to dh_installexamples is not needed, because
your package does not include any. The same is true for dh_link.

Thats it for now. Once you've got the above issues fixed, I'll have
another look at the package and possibly upload it.

Best Regards,
Patrick

Have been waiting on a sponsor for a while now. You can of course get
the source package at:

- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/debpool/debpool_0.3.3.dsc

 just out of curiosity: is there any planned upload for debpool?

 I saw the ITA is back into February, and many patches are already in

 something...

 Cheers,

RFS: quickplay

2008-09-19 Thread Charliej
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package quickplay.

* Package name: quickplay
  Version : 0.1
  Upstream Author : Kevin Purdy
* URL : http://quickplay.isfound.at/
* License : GPLv2
  Section : sound

It builds these binary packages:
quickplay - a light weight player/frontend for Ampache

Quick play is a light weight mp3 player and simple front end for Amapche which
is
written in Python. Quickplay utilizes XML-RPC and ACL's to browse and play
mp3's
from Ampache.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 499485

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/q/quickplay
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/q/quickplay/quickplay_0.1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Charlie Smotherman

OK you got me. Actually, I've had debpool uploaded to mentors but later pulled
it to fix some issues and just didn't go around to putting it back in mentors
again til' now.

 Anyway, not a big deal: I'm going to check the package and let you know.

Whoops. I'm finding errors in compressing the Packages and Sources files that
I didn't encounter before. I've pulled debpool from mentors for now.

 OK you got me. Actually, I've had debpool uploaded to mentors but later pulled
 it to fix some issues and just didn't go around to putting it back in mentors
 again til' now.

Here is my report:

* debian/changelog
  - line 49, fashion (typo); maybe give a run if spellcheck in the
rest of the changelog entry :)
  - + Removed 'binary-arch' target in debian/rules to silence new
lintian warning.: well, the target is still there, but it's empty (as
it should be) so please adjust this entry (just for clarity)
  - + Added Joel Aelwyn in Uploaders field. but it's not in debian/control

* debian/control
  - DM-Upload-Allowed: yes, don't take this too bad, but this field
is usually added but your usual sponsor, so please remove it (for now)
:)
  - Process incoming packages using Inotify (requires
liblinux-inotify2-perl) but liblinux-inotify2-perl it's in Depends
(so always installed) so why mention it in the description (I can
understand for the others, though)?
  - bump versioned depends on debhlper (as lintian suggests; do you
run lintian, right?)
  - personally I'd add Build-Depends-Indep: perl to control, even if
perl if Build-Essential: yes

* debian/copyright
  - if you're using http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat
then I think it's missing (at least) Format-Specification: field
  - $ grep 2004 bin/debpool
# Copyright 2003-2004 Joel Baker. All rights reserved.
but it's not in debian/copyright file; please fix this

* not a problem, just a notice: since you have only one binary
package, you can remove the package name from debhelper support
filename, like in debpool.docs it might be only docs

* debian/README.User
  - 1.: what about adding a \ at the end of first command line, so
even pasting from the doc directly will lead to a correct command?
  - 1. and 2.: in the first example you don't say that you need root
account to create a new system user, and in the second you use sudo
that might not be set-up to execute all command for the current user;
I'd uniform those example to a safer bet: use root (?)
  - 3. Create a logfile directory for debpool is /var/log/debpool a
directory or a logfile? because sudo touch will create a file...
  - 4. Edit /etc/debpool/Config.pm is this editable by debpool
users? how is it supposed to setup a local repo and have his own
config file?

* debian/rules
  - clean target, what about mergin rm -f ... call to dh_clean call
(they do the same stuff...)?
  - dh_installexamples examples/* but
$ cat debian/debpool.examples
examples/*

* is this upload really targetted to experimental? is there a plan to
upload in unstable anytime soon, or it's a decision you took to leave
the package in exp?

* I'm wondering if DebPool::Config.5 it's the best name possible for
manpage for config file, maybe something more debpool-friendly, but
I'll leave the decision to you :)

I didn't have time to play for real with the program, but it builds
fine in pbuilder and install without problem; tomorrow I'll play with
it.
