I don't know anything about Ruby or Rails (except that they exist), but
I didn't understand it that way. I think it means that Ruby (in Debian)
at this moment is not quite ready for your package. My advice would be
to leave the bug open, and add the comments there, stating that
packaging is on hold. Maybe you could discuss with Ondřej what needs to
be done to Ruby/Debian for your package to be acceptable. Of course this
could be a lot of work, but to me it sounds like real valuable to FOSS.

Just my 2¢.

I would personally wrap the build-deps one package per line, since it
makes it easier to see what changed.

Your watch file is overly generic, I would suggest using this instead:

http://opensource.conformal.com/snapshots/xxxterm/xxxterm-([\d\.]+)\.tgz

There is a new upstream release (1.517) available.

Please forward your patches upstream if you haven't already. You can

I wonder about the copyright on the icon, it looks like a derivative
work of an image that seems to have spread around the Internet. I am
betting that upstream just took it from somewhere and removed parts of
it.

http://www.tineye.com/search/89570e05282f2e4532aa067d38cb83a023bfa1bd/

Based on this wikipedia article, it might even be copyright of some
movie studio:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight_Club_(film)#Marketing

Or perhaps it is copyright by the people selling the soap:

http://uncrate.com/stuff/fight-club-soap/

I also wonder what the license of the font used in creating the icon
is and which font it is. Sounds like it would have been a non-free
font used by the movie studio behind the Fight Club film.

In any case I don''t think it is an appropriate icon for a web browser.

After packaging, the file is executable, I greped for white.png in the

Any ideas why this file gets the x flag?
I can't find anything special about it:

 $ file fonts/white.png
 fonts/white.png: PNG image data, 128 x 72, 8-bit/color RGBA, non-interlaced

I've no idea why a .png image would be made executable by debhelper,

Yep, you are right.
It got reported upstream and is fixed in trunk, next release shouldn't
need an override of dh_fixperms.

 override_dh_fixperms:
 dh_fixperms
 chmod -x usr/share/games/flare/fonts/white.png

(This is probably a rather ugly workaround though...)

and it makes the package FTBFS on my machine:

 permissions are rw-r--r-x, not rw-r--r--
 make[1]: *** [override_dh_fixperms] Error 1

probably using chmod a-x usr/share/games/flare/fonts/white.png will do
 a better job.

Thanks, I changed that.

oh, and your orig.tar.gz contains a .git directory that seems to not
 come from upstream at all.

Correct as well. I used the original orig.tar.gz for my current upload.

I used this header before but as I started managing the package using git

Also, *all* the patches have been sent upstream. Some of them have been

Sorry, but I don't think that's an option upstream will take. For

discarded by upstream.

It would seem like a good idea to install the icon in the standard

I can add a patch to do this, but again I don't think upstream would be

patches before (for example, the one to change the resources directory).

Where does debian/xxxterm.upstream-changelog come from? Maybe you
could get upstream to start publishing it in their tarballs as a NEWS

This file is built from information taken from the official forum:

https://opensource.conformal.com/fluxbb/viewforum.php?id=8

Again, I may propose upstream to add this file but if you take a look at
the thread in the forum:

https://opensource.conformal.com/fluxbb/viewtopic.php?id=160

You'll see that upstream reply to a similar question is: cvs has a
built-in changelog. Thus, I guess they would give me a similar answer.

I wonder about the copyright on the icon, it looks like a derivative
work of an image that seems to have spread around the Internet. I am
betting that upstream just took it from somewhere and removed parts of

I have discussed this already with Kilian Krause and Benoit Knecht, and
also with the upstream authors.

So, based on information provided by upstream, these icons were created by
them (upstreams) and the license is CC BY. I do have (personal) emails
discussing this with upstreams, but obviously I have no evidences of any of
this.

Package has been built with the assumption that information provided by
upstreams is correct. Anyway, I'm OK to just drop these icons or replace
them by some other icons already shipped with Debian.

Is this enough for you to accept these icons as they are?

This package builds fine in pbuilder environment. The packages you

In debian/copyright, you need to state the license for Files:* and

Why do you patch the gemspec for the description? if the

 change it in debian/control directly.

Again this is my mistake, I'll change that.

Ah, now I see that the package builds several gems. I don't think

I'm not sure yet about the best way to support this, or even about
supporting it directly at all. The problem is that each package has
a different strategy for implementing multiple package.

For example this one package has both code under lib/ _and_
subpackages under subdirectories. What I would do is keep using
gem2deb but add a special installation step before the default
gem2deb installation step, something like this:

 PACKAGES = \ oa-basic \ oa-core \ oa-enterprise \ oa-more \
 oa-oauth \ oa-openid

 override_dh_auto_install: for pkg in $(PACKAGES); do dh_install -p
 ruby-$$pkg $$pkg/lib/* /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby; done
 dh_auto_install

Of course, you will need to add the appropriate binary package
stanzas to debian/control, and check the dependencies for each
sub-package, and make sure the tests for all of them are run during
 package build.

I'll try to do this modification and see if it works though I'm
totally new in this I'll try my best.

stored) once. On the other hand, the fasl files may depend tightly on
the machine architecture.

 2. unusual-interpreter + script-not-executable (e. g.
 usr/lib/open-axiom/algebra/D02EJFA.fasl)

[...]

The second is a feature of SBCL: *.fasl files are compiled lisp code,
and they must have a special header. Changing shebang makes SBCL core
contains an illegal byte in the FASL header at position 0: Expected 35, got
 10.

The literal error message complains because the file does not start with
#. Maybe you have a blank line before # FASL? I'm no common lisp expert though.

As far as I understand, the #! is added by sbcl to permit fasl files to
be run as scripts. But this is not much use if the path inserted is in
the build tree, namely something like:

#!/build/open-axiom-NMAtjL/open-axiom-1.4.1+svn~2299/build-tree/src/interp/interpsys
 --script

I'm not sure if open-axiom uses this feature (and I notice sbcl itself
also has broken #! lines in it's fasl files. In your case, I suspect the
upstream build process is putting the wrong path into the #!
lines. interpsys isn't installed by debian sbcl and it isn't included in
the open-axiom source package.

Yes, this is a known bug (#632403) and that's the main reason I'm still

vim-conqueterm - This Vim-Plugin is used to run interactive commands
inside a Vim.

I have followed Debian packaging policy for vim plug ins, to the best
of my knowledge. I have checked the deb file with lintian using the
command lintian -IiE --pedantic and appears to be lintian clean
(upstream has no changelog AFAIK).

Please run lintian on *.changes file. That way lintian will check not
only binaries, but also the source package (and possibly more).

I have tested the package
installation with trivial tests and it seems to work as expected.

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

 http://mentors.debian.net/package/conque

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

 dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/conque/conque_2.2-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

debian/README.Debian:
- The text is oddly wrapped...
- There is a typo: not enable - not enabled. Since this template
appears to be copied over and over from the policy document to various
READMEs, it'd nice if the template were reviewed by debian-l10n-english@
people. Would you care to file a bug against src:vim (which contains the
policy text)?
- See Section 4 for more info on this. - this sentence was not
supposed to be copied to your README.
- Contrary to what the README says, the add-on *is* enabled by default.
This might be due to some packaging bugs.

VERSION, debian/VERSION (and debian/docs):
- What are these files for?

conque.doc-base:
- This is file not used during build, it refers to files that don't
exist...

debian/conqueterm.1:
- What is the manual page for? Section 1 is for executable programs or
shell commands but the binary package doesn't ship anything like
that. I'd expect help for the add-on to be available via the vim's
:help command, not in a oddly-formatted manual page...

debian/control:
- Use debhelper (= 8) rather than debhelper (= 8.0.0).
- What is build-dependency on sharutils for?
- The package could be Architecture: all. Similarly, you can remove
${shlib:Depends} from Depends.
- Your vim dependency (vim | gvim) is incorrect. In fact the addon
doesn't work with vim.basic, provided by package vim. The package
needs a vim that is linked with libpython. We have quite a few such
vims, but fortunately all of them provide virtual package vim-python.
- I'd omit Plugin is only usable if you have vim-gtk (or vim-python)
installed from package description. This is what we have Depends for.

- Please have your description reviewed by debian-l10n-english@.

debian/copyright:
- The file doesn't include the most important part: the actual upstream
license!
- According to the DEP-5 specifications, format URI should be versioned,
while yours is not.
- This is of course personal choice, but I would recommend you not to
use a more restrictive license for Debian packaging than the upstream
uses.

interpsys is a main tool to build OpenAxiom,
it is not requred to run OA. One can think of it
as of libtool or similar.

Fasl-files are not used as scripts, but as modules (example below)

I tried to change shebangs (keeping #!, of cause) - any little change
confuses SBCL core. I wiil investigate more, though.

AFAIK, fasl-files is binary compatible only with
the exact SBCL version it was generated with
(http://www.sbcl.org/manual/FASL-Format.html).
Not sure whether they are arch-independent.

(AO includes SBCL core, so SBCL itself is not required to run AO.
And there is no problem to upgrade system SBCL :-)

So, I guess I have to resolve two issues:

1. SBCL shebangs (I don't like it actually)
2. Location of HyperTex data (maybe symlink for a while).

Does roxterm-gtk3 have any functionality -gtk2 doesn't have? Unlike QT/GTK,
there isn't a big difference there and I quite fail to see the reason to
have both. It's a library rather than support for a whole environment,
you need to upgrade at some time but I guess it will be half a decade before
anyone says a word about removing gtk2.

Thus, if there's a bug but no goodies, you could stick with gtk2 for now.
And there's a lot of time before wheezy freezes, so there's a fat chance the
bug will be fixed, saving us two transitions (roxterm - roxterm-gtk*,
roxterm-gtk* - roxterm).

mentors.dn package removal request

2011-08-28 Thread Gergely Nagy
Hi!

The QA on mentors.d.n wasn't quite clear on whom I shall contact in
cases like this, but figured there's no harm asking on -mentors@ either:

Someone, somewhen uploaded a dpatch 2.0.31-1[1] package to mentors.d.n,
before it became debexpo. That version is well.. lets just say,
obsolete. However, it still shows up on the dpatch PTS page[2], which is
kind of annoying. I've tried emailing the uploader at the end of July,
but haven't heard back yet, so I'm asking here now: is there any way to
remove that version from mentors.d.n, so that the PTS stops suggesting I
sponsor it?

Thanks in advance!

RFS: micro-evtd (updated package) (try #2)

2011-08-28 Thread Ryan Tandy

Dear mentors and ARM porters,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 3.4-1
of my package micro-evtd.

It builds these binary packages:
micro-evtd - Linkstation Pro/Kurobox Pro special features support
micro-evtd-udeb - Linkstation Pro/Kurobox Pro special features support -
udeb (udeb)

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 534931, 5153353

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/micro-evtd
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free - dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/micro-evtd/micro-evtd_3.4-1.dsc

It's been a while since try #1. I was quite busy over the summer and
guessed that maybe potential reviewers/sponsors were as well. Maybe now
that we are heading into fall I'll have better luck.

Asheesh Laroia has kindly offered[1] to do a second review and upload of
this package, but he wants someone else to do a review first. I would
be happy if someone would review my package so that it could be uploaded.

Thanks,
Ryan

 Hi!

The QA on mentors.d.n wasn't quite clear on whom I shall contact in
cases like this, but figured there's no harm asking on -mentors@ either:

Hi there! If it's a support question, which this mostly is, then I suggest
emailing support@m.d.n.

I'm happy to answer here for now, though!

Someone, somewhen uploaded a dpatch 2.0.31-1[1] package to mentors.d.n,
before it became debexpo. That version is well.. lets just say,
obsolete. However, it still shows up on the dpatch PTS page[2], which is
kind of annoying. I've tried emailing the uploader at the end of July,
but haven't heard back yet, so I'm asking here now: is there any way to
remove that version from mentors.d.n, so that the PTS stops suggesting I
 sponsor it?

Sure -- I could remove it. I'd rather, though, say we should fix the PTS
to only show versions of packages greater than the ones in Debian.

Can you file that bug against the PTS? I don't removing it from m.d.n
once you have done so.

Just upload another source package to mentors.debian.net, and I'll
review and hopefully upload it. Or find something else to complain
 about :).

This bug (#624227) has already been filed against the PTS and this
entire feature of the PTS should be restructured with debexpo for
multiple reasons. The biggest reason is that not all packages on m.d.n
are actually in need of a sponsor. Since debexpo keeps a flag for Needs
Sponsor, the hope is that the PTS can begin to use that metadata in the
future (instead of simply interacting with the source repository as it
does now).

Thanks

P.S. IANA PTS maintainer. All of this is information gathered from
informal discussions with one of the PTS maintainers. My interpretation
of planned modifications to the PTS may be outdated or incorrect.

Yes, this is a known bug (#632403) and that's the main reason I'm still
providing a gtk2 package too. As soon as it's uploaded I'll mark the
bug as affecting roxterm-gtk3. I should probably have mentioned that in
my RFS (although I did discuss the bug and splitting the package on
debian-mentors first), so I'm Cc-ing this back to the list.

Uploaded.

Without having looked at all at your package (and, note, I am purely a
random bystander, not a mentor or packager or anything):

I'm not sure if open-axiom uses this feature (and I notice sbcl itself
also has broken #! lines in it's fasl files. In your case, I suspect the
upstream build process is putting the wrong path into the #!
lines. interpsys isn't installed by debian sbcl and it isn't included in
 the open-axiom source package.

interpsys is a main tool to build OpenAxiom,
it is not requred to run OA. One can think of it
 as of libtool or similar.

interpsys would be a Build-Depends of some sort for OpenAxiom then,
I assume? I do not see it mentioned in
open-axiom_1.4.1+svn~2299-1.dsc. (I peeked.) Is it packaged and/or
available in Debian, then?

(AO includes SBCL core, so SBCL itself is not required to run AO.
And there is no problem to upgrade system SBCL :-)

Might this cause a problem for someone down the line? I'm thinking of
something along the lines of, a bug (possibly a security-related bug)
is found in SBCL (possibly by SBCL upstream), in the portion that is
duplicated inside of OpenAxiom, and is fixed in the SBCL package
itself within Debian.

Who is going to know, and how are they going to know, that the same
bug (at least potentially) exists within OpenAxiom and needs to be
found and fixed there, too?

I realize this may not be feasible to address within the Debian
package, it may have to be resolved by OpenAxiom upstream (assuming
they are willing to do so). But, I read of problems various
distributions (Debian, Fedora, etc) have with applications like Google
Chromium (the open source version of the Google Chrome browser), where
Google has chosen to include its own copy of many different software
libraries within the source distribution for Chromium rather than use
the distribution- / system-supplied version of these libraries, and
each distribution has to decide how to address this decision by
Google. What you describe above for OpenAxiom sounds like the same
sort of thing, albeit on a much smaller scale. So...

Thanks for your time. Hope this is of some use, interest.

Joseph

Some of these things I should have found earlier, but I thought lintian
would keep you busy longer ;).

- The second paragraph of the long description is not helpful to the
debian user trying to decide whether to install the package; we try
not to waste space in the description because it is stored in many
places (e.g. /var/lib/dpkg/available). You are welcome to add a
README.Debian file if you want to say more about the project.

- rather than putting TODO in debian/control, it is better have a
seperate TODO file that will be installed by dh_installdocs

- In your debian/copyright file, you should mention the license for your
packaging. It would be a good idea to have a seperate header line for
license and to explicitly say by each copyright holder (NAG, Axiom
Team) what license applies (do they all use the BSD-like mentioning
  NAG, or are there variants?).

- I'm confused why debian/open-axiom.png is listed in
debian/source/include-binaries, but not include in the source
  package. Previous experiment?

- Don't think removing the compiled from lines is needed, but it is
your call. The shebang lines I agree should go.

- at some point you should consider adding some metadata to your
patches. I typically just use git-format-patch, but if using straight
quilt you may want to look at http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/.

Anyway I have to run, Hurricane Irene is making my power flicker on and
off.

RFS: aqemu (updated package)

2011-08-28 Thread Ignace Mouzannar
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.8.2-1 of my package aqemu.

It builds these binary packages:
aqemu - Qt4 front-end for QEMU and KVM

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 622722

Here is the relevant changelog section:

aqemu (0.8.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * debian/control:
- Added armhf support. Thank you Konstantinos Margaritis
mar...@genesi-usa.com for the tests and patch.
  (Closes: 622722)
- Bumped Standards-Version to 3.9.2.
- Added the DM-Upload-Allowed field.
  * debian/patches:
- 01_spelling_corrections: corrects upstream spelling errors.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net [1].

I would be glad if someone could review/upload this package for me.

As you might have noticed in the debian/changelog abstract, I have set
the DM-Upload-Allowed field to yes for this package; please (notify
me|remove it) should you consider this inappropriate.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Kind regards,
 Ignace M
