Bug#754202: Gamera/3.4.1-1
Hi Daniel, I'm not sure if I have enough time to familiarise myself with the package to sponsor it but I had a quick look so here is my feedback and improvement ideas: Although debian/copyright is almost comprehensive it still misses some organisations, notably 2007 INRIA (AKA Dolphin?), 2006 LIFL (AKA OPAC?). Worth to clarify. Besides copyright file feels not very human-readable and therefore it is hard to review. I understand the effort that will be necessary but I still hope that eventually (when convenient) the following improvements can be made: * Sorting (please alphabetise copyright holders) * Padding with spaces (to make lists appears more like tables i.e. add spaces between copyright year and name if necessary to make all names begin from the same column). This will increase readability. * Ideally it will be nice to have contact emails listed as well. Many of them can be harvested from source files. * I prefer to be more precise regarding years of copyright so I would remove trailing commas after copyright years. When year of copyright written like 2007, it may create wrong impression that person is still actively contributing which is not true on many occasions. I believe it is better to write 2007-2011 and never use ambiguous trailing commas. I've noticed that package is not using dh_python2. I do not have enough experience with Python to say whether it is a good or bad thing. I also think that package could use more debhelper functionality. This is not a problem but I'd prefer someone (other than me) who have more Python experience to review and upload. Hopefully someone from Python team could help? Gamera_gui exposes its modules globally which may be unnecessary. I understand that according to Python policy it is desirable to install application's modules privately. In that sense python-gamera obviously should be exposed in global name space but gamera-gui may be better to hide its modules. `cme check dpkg-control` (from libconfig-model-dpkg-perl) reported unnecessary versioned dependencies. This is the opportunity to clean debian/control. Finally my biggest concern is new dependency on wxwidgets2.8. There is on-going transition to wxwidgets3.0: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=748169 So if I understand situation properly your package will be blocking this transition (if uploaded as is) and therefore it will be affected by yet-to-be- filed serious bug. IMHO it will be ideal to migrate to wxwidgets3.0 before upload. -- Regards, Dmitry Smirnov. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Thanks Dmitry for the close review and the valuable hints for further improvements. I'll get through it, luckily there is still some time until the package really gets AUTORM. Bug#754441: GMastermind Relicensing
Hi, I'm currently packaging GMastermind for Debian. In the process, it has been discovered that, according to a technical reading of the README, GMastermind is licensed under GPL-2 only (i.e. without or, at your option, any later version). However, according to the headers on the source files, it would appear that the intention was to license under GPL-2 or any later version. Bug#754441: RFS: gmastermind.app/0.6-1 [ITP] -- GNUstep based Mastermind (TM) clone
Well, it could be argued if this little notice in README carries more legal weight than the intent expressed in the source files (the notice does not follow the recommended form and gpl.txt is missing)... We (pkg-gnustep) had an inititive 6 or 7 years ago to re-check the licenses of all GNUstep packages as the license of the GNUstep core libraries was upgraded to LGPLv3+ (the summary is still here: https://wiki.debian.org/DebianGNUstep/TODO). Unsurprisingly, many of the supposed GPLv2-only apps were licensed as such unintentionally by their authors, or were presumed by us to be GPLv2-only based on assumptions very similar to yours. GMastermind is much more likely to be GPL-2+ than GPL-2; I am quite certain about that. It's best to clarify though, so that you could sleep well. If you're worried about the incompatibility between LGPL3 and GPL2, you don't have to be. gmastermind.app is only linking to the LGPL3 libraries, so the copyleft doesn't apply to it (because of the linking exemption). To be sure of this, though, I'd have to get confirmation from all of the contributors; writing to upstream wouldn't be enough. Should I try to do this? I think it would be enough to contact the GAP folks, they can reach the others if necessary. GAP cannot provide us with legal certainty. In fact, while we need their confirmation (due to the GNUstep Application Team 2011 copyright), their confirmation is not enough. I've written to all of the copyright holders, and if they all agree, then I'll change the license. There's no reason to postpone putting the package into Debian, though. Thanks; no further remarks from me. Good luck in your sponsor quest. Thanks; I've fixed the problems that you've described. The problem isn't the LGPL3; it's the GPL2's requirement for all libraries to be GPL2-compatible. Re: Separate gpg signing from package building
Hei, To build your own package, simply run debuild from inside the source tree. dpkg-buildpackage(1) options may be given on the command line. The typical command line options to build only the binary package(s) without signing the .changes file (or the non-existent .dsc file): debuild -i -us -uc -b from man debuild. 2014-07-14 5:59 GMT+02:00 T o n g mlist4sunt...@yahoo.com: Hi, Is it possible to separate gpg signing from package building? Hi Asheesh, thank you very much for your help. You have probably missed the part where Felix said: I have no problem building these packages and providing some support, but ideally this position should be filled by someone actually running a .deb based linux distribution (he uses Arch linux), so I'd rather be contributor than maintainer So, since Felix is not running a .deb based distro and he prefers to be a contributor(developer) it would be nice to have someone interested in this task. As you have said, Felix has already done a great job but I need someone to finish/maintain the package. I really don't have time for this :(, I am practically the only developer of the project, the only one giving support to the users, I maintain the Windows and MacOSX packages/installers, and I also manage the web site and users' forum. It seems like you already have a contributor in YACReader who is interested in making a reasonably high quality Debian package. Congratulations on that! The amount of work that has already been done is impressive! I wonder if the best thing we can do is to work with that person to remove obstacles so that they can continue to maintain it. Maybe that person (Felix, if I understand the thread correctly) and I can find some time to chat on IRC and figure out how to make that happen? https://asheesh.youcanbook.me/ is a web page where you can reserve an hour of my time, so that I don't forget to show up at the right time. Can I ask you to send this to Felix and see if Felix is interested in that? Try to give me at least 24 hours' lead time, if possible. (I can follow up with you about scheduling that off-list, to avoid lots of noise.) Cheers!

Re: Help with libquazip / Qt4-Qt5
Hi Mentors, I've updated the libquazip package so that it builds a dual qt version of the library: Qt4 and Qt5. I still have to include the -dbg package may be using override_dh_strip (it's in progress). The source package builds without any error with a debian sid pbuilder base (pbuilder --distribution sid). For mentors who are interested, can you review the code please. http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/debian-med/trunk/packages/libquazip/trunk/debian Thanks Eric, Debian Med signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Gatejs needs a mentor
Hi I'm working on gatejs which is a reverse forward proxy made using javascript (nodejs). It is under the GPLv3 We would like to port it for Debian.
