Absolutely agree. My understanding is that the GAP upstream team is working on

But GAP is an heavy machinery, and  it might be not one of the top priorities.

The current scheme of the libgap-sage package tends to this solution:
the first priority was to bring libga[-sage] to Debian.

are not modified, so they cannot be packaged for copyright reasons.

maintainer.

[FIXME] is certainly an obscure loop that is meant to stop any convergence that 
goes out of control.
I guess that we can over come it through a passive sentence:

:param int max_no_dec: number of rounds allowed to be stuck.

This change silences lintian.

We are dealing here with a well known algorithm in the involved field.
So the `party' is implicitly the algorithm. I have to confess that I am
not familiar with this very algorithm. But the context let me think that
it is a convergent algorithm and that the involved parameter is meant to
control (numerical) convergence that goes out of control, what is a usual
safeguard technique so to speak.

I am packaging fpylll [1], a Python wrapper for the fpLLL C++ library.
The involved function is related to the Block Korkine Zolotarev (BKZ) algorithm.

detected by lintian ?

For the curious. In the source, there is the sentence:

:param int max_no_dec: number of rounds we allow to be stuck


and lintian complains as follows:

allow to allow one to


I am not a native English speaker, but I guess that the suggested substitution 
is not valid.
But on the other hand, I have no idea on how to reshape the sentence.

I suspected that it was generated. Nevertheless, it is not clear for me
it is generated as template to ease the maintainer work or as Makefile
as automake does. In the former situation, the patch make sense, in the
latter, the Makefile may be dropped out at repackaging time.

I will revisit this for cysignals 1.2 .

When I wrote the lintian override, I have in mind beside the HTML output the 
ipynb input,
only the former is taken into account by lintian.
Meanwhile, I relized that lintian was not able to point out an audio 
privacy-breatch..

Anyway, I brought the suggested material. The hard part was the refreshment of 
the debian/copyright file:
it is getting large.

It was not really deprecated but rather moved. Whatever, the main issue is that 
the RTD
version breaks compatibility with the version previously developed by Bibek 
Kafle
and Roland Shoemake [A]. The real target here is the Python package recommonmark
which depends on this very version; recommonmark has moved to RTD as well, but 
the
broken issue has not been fixed yet. The suffix bkrs was appended for this 
purposed.
All this stuff is exposed in debian/README.Debian .

I am packaging a software of general use which can be or not built against a 
quite heavy library
targeting a minority. I plan to provide two versions of the package: you got 
it, one without support
of the concerned library; one with support. A suffix must be added to the 
packages to distinct them,
my issue is which one to choose. If the library was X, it would be -nox and 
-x11. For the package
supporting the library I plan to append the suffix -[LIBRARY SHORT NAME]. 
Concerning the other one,
I am wondering if -bare or -pure (or something) would be a better choice than 
-no[LIBRARY SHORT NAME].
What do you think ? Any hint is welcome.

I have noticed what looks as meta information in the distributed __init__.pxd 
file, something as:

As a matter of fact, this very line was written by th setup.py scrip as follows:

it appears that for one of my pacage, libgap-sage not to mention it [1],
the upstream source tarbal does not contain the required material to be not
rejected by ftpmaster [2]. So I am considering to create a Debian Source
from the GIT repository. Unfortunately, the GIT repository contains no tags,
so uscan(1) seems not be useful here. I have already submitted a ticket to
the upstream maintainer [3], but he seems to be very busy.
Meanwhile, I want to step forward.

What is the best way to create a Debian Source from the upstream GIT repository 
?

Any hint and any (good) example is wellcome.

I parsed the Debian gcc-5 bugreport list, and I found nothing related.
I also Googled, but I got nothing relevant.

For me, debugging a compiler is as debugging a kernel: not my cup of tea
and certainly out of my scope.

Note that for my issue, I could also build with the -O0 option:
given that gcc-6 will become the default sooner or later, I choose to built with
gcc that does not raise the issue.

(only on s390x arch).

It appears that some tests fail for one of my package (gmp-ecm) on one 
architecture (s390x):
after some investigation, it appears that it is a compiler issue: building with 
gcc-6 (instead of gcc-5)
causes no issue. So now I want to impose the gcc-6 to d/rules ? What is the 
best way to do so ?

But the upstream version is (very) old, and the Debian package material
clearly needs some refreshment. Is a patch really appropriate here ?

because I used it a few years ego [and because I may use it a gain sooner or 
later]:
I try to contact several times the current maintainer in view to get
the package officially orphaned before any ITA submission.
So far, I got no feed back. The package is clearly abandoned.
Is there any Debian authority that have the permission to orphan it ?
If not, what can be done ?

Meanwhile OpenViewerFX moved to GitHub and thing get clearer for me:
I am not sure that this pacakge is indeed still needed.
For now I will focus on the OpenViewerFX package.
The probability is high that I abandon this package:
I will let you know and I will clean the place if it happens.

At the time of uploading, the source had an intricate name and was at source 
forge.
Meanwhile the upstream maintainer moved from SF to GitHub:

Currently there is no name issue because there is no name.
I can managed the downloading and the version checking with the recent uscan 
(version 4)
