Bug#919819: Remember to close bug #799710

2019-01-20 Thread Mario Stephan

Hi Juhani,

It's a pity that 2.3.0-3 was not used. I even have the
knowthelist_2.3.0-3_amd64.mentors.upload file on my disk.
Nevertheless I changed the changelog (removed the 2.3.0-3 item and
moved the left line to the current change set) now.

The new upload is done.

Thanks
Mario

Hi Mario,

While version 2.3.0-3 of knowthelist was never uploaded, it still
appears in the changelog which might be a bit misleading. Also the
bug #799710 may be left accidentally open, because by default, only
the topmost changelog entry contributes to automatical closing of
bugs (via the field "Closes:" in a .changes file,
https://manpages.debian.org/unstable/dpkg-dev/deb-changes.5.en.html ).

For this reason I recommend that you don't have a separate entry for
an unreleased upload.

Regards,
Juhani

Hi Adam,

thanks for your fast feedback.
To be honest, this was the easiest way for me to get rid of some
confusing warnings / errors of the build tools.
But your arguments sounds reasonable and I tried to re-build the
package as quilt.

New upload is done.

I look forward to further feedback from you.

Regards
Mario

May I ask why did you convert the package to native?
* the upstream package is useful outside Debian
* the upstream package _exists_ (ie, doesn't come from Debian)
* the packaging hasn't been fully adapted to native

Generally, only stuff like debhelper makes sense as native, even if
you're
upstream -- clear separation between upstream and packaging parts
allows

other people to make non-maintainer uploads that can be reasonably
incorporated into your master repository.

(I haven't looked at other changes yet.)
